We have been anxiously waiting for ZADRAN’S to open as we love Afghan food and it did not disappoint. Small plates to share at very reasoning prices. A fan favorite was the Spinach Borani appetizer. We also ordered the Aisha’s dumplings, Chicken Qorma, and Qabeli Palaw. All very good. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly and the bartender went out of his way to alter a cocktail for us and recommend an excellent bottle of wine. The white tablecloths, subdued lighting and deep blue walls create a lovely atmosphere. The restaurant is in a renovated historic home in downtown FXBG. Make the effort and go!!!
We had dinner at Zadran's last night and i'm so glad we tried it! Every dish we ordered, which was most of the menu since we were 6 adults, was just amazing. I've had afghan all my life but the flavor in these dishes were different, very home cooked like but presented in a very elegant way!
The restaurant is small, intimate and cozy and Chef Zadran makes it special! If you are going for the first time, I'd recommend trying Aushak Dumplings, Eggplant Borani as the appetizer and Saffron Chicken, Apricot & Lentil Qorma and Qabeli Pulao as the main. Each main is enough for two people to share.
If you want something warm, authentic, and truly unique in downtown Fredericksburg, I can’t recommend Zadran's Kitchen enough. I can't wait to go back!
First time into the brick and mortar storefront and WOW!
We have had Humayun's delicious food when he came to the farmers market in Stafford last year. I couldn't pronounce most of the dishes, and am still learning but I haven't had a single thing that didn't make my taste buds happy!
When we came in we were greated promptly by the friendly staff, Christian made a point to come down from their amazing lounge/bar area upstairs to welcome us and make some recommendations. Humayun took time to come out of the kitchen to welcome us, he even remembered us from the farmer's market!
Their menu changes with the seasons so they can use fresh locally sourced ingredients.
Today's menu was served tapas style, which was awesome because we were able to try several different dishes!
My son was with me and was skeptical when the first plate came out, like umm how am I going to get full Dad? By the time we finished he was stuffed!
We had:
-House chutnies with fresh naan
-Spinach Borani an amazing dip I suppose you would call it? We ate it with the naan and some on the Qubeli Palaw as well
-Salata fresh salad with house made dressing
-Mantu delicious dumplings
-Qubeli Palaw eat this! It will change your life! I can't explain it other than that!
-Lamb Shank - my son's choice, he's a huge fan of lamb. Usually I find it too dry for my taste. I am now a huge fan of lamb too! Literally falling off the bone and so tender you cut it with your fork!
They do have many other selections and desert. We were too full for more tonight but will be back soon.
