Last Modified: August 20, 2026

This privacy policy ("Privacy Policy") explains how Hungru Ltd. ("we," "our," or "us") collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you use our website, web app, or mobile applications (iOS and Android) (collectively, the "Service"), and the choices you can make about that information. By using the Service, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Information We Collect

We may collect personal data from different sources, depending on how you interact with the Service. These sources may include information provided directly by you, information collected automatically through your use of the Service, information received from third-party services you use to access the Service (such as Google or Apple), and information received from our service providers, business partners, or other third parties. We may also collect information that is publicly available. The types of personal data we may collect include, among others, the following:

  • Account and Registration Information: Information you submit when creating an account, such as your name, email address, phone number, and profile details. If you sign in via Google, we also receive your profile picture; if you sign in via Apple (on iOS), we receive a unique identifier.
  • User-Generated Content: Reviews, ratings, comments, photos, images, lists, saved items, and other content you create, upload, or submit while using the platform. Please note, Any information or content you choose to publish on your profile or feed is public and may be viewed and accessed by other users and the general public.
  • Usage and Device Information: Data collected automatically when you access the platform, about your use of the platform, including IP address, city location, device/browser/OS details, connection information, language, access and time logs, network logs (including access key), duration of use, bugs and errors data, click stream data and interactions with the platform and features, and push notification token (if applicable).
  • Contact and Support: Information you submit via our contact form or reviewer request form, including your name, email, and message content, ticketing details, chat transcripts, and support history.
  • Marketing & Consent Logs: Your preferences regarding marketing communications and a record of the consents you have granted or withdrawn across the platform.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the personal data we collect for the following defined operational and commercial purposes:

  • Providing, Maintaining, and Improving the Service: To establish and manage your user account, verify your identity, enable core features, and continuously operate, maintain, and improve the Services, including developing new features and enhancing existing functionality.
  • Administrative and Transactional Communications: To send you operational updates and transactional messages, including account or personal notifications, identity verification, authentication, and security-related communications. Message and data rates may apply to SMS messages.
  • Marketing and Promotional Communications: To send promotional materials and other communications about our products or the products of our business partners, where permitted by law or based on your consent.
  • Content Generation and AI Enrichment: To process data and generate AI-enriched content, including automated restaurant, dish, and chef descriptions.
  • Experience Personalization: To analyze your interactions, reviews, and preferences to build a taste profile used strictly for personalizing your in-app experience and recommendations.
  • Platform Security and Abuse Prevention: To monitor server access logs, prevent fraudulent activity, mitigate cyber threats, and maintain the overall safety and stability of our infrastructure, and comply with industry standards and our internal policies.
  • Usage Analytics and Performance Optimization: To analyze the use of our Services and related operations, including through the aggregation and de-identification of certain data, to understand guest engagement, track engagement metrics, enhance service performance, and support our operations.
  • Customer Support and Feedback: To solicit your feedback, respond to your direct inquiries, troubleshoot technical difficulties, handle customer service interactions, and manage support tickets and reviewer outreach.
  • Regulatory and Legal Compliance: To comply with applicable statutory laws, respond to valid judicial subpoenas, court orders, warrants, or official requests from law enforcement and government authorities.
  • Other Notified Purposes: To perform any other function for which we provide specific notice to you at the time of collection.

3. Lawful Basis for Processing

Under applicable data protection frameworks (such as the GDPR), we must establish a valid legal justification for processing your personal data. We rely on the following lawful bases:

  • Performance of a Contract: We process your personal data primarily to deliver, operate, and maintain the Services you requested, execute core platform functionalities, fulfill our terms of service, and respond to your direct customer support requests.
  • Consent: We rely on your explicit, voluntary consent for non-essential data operations, such as delivering push notifications, building taste profiles for experience personalization, using certain cookies and tracking technologies, and sending promotional materials regarding our products or those of our business partners. Where processing is based on your consent, you may withdraw your consent at any time.
  • Legitimate Interests: We process certain data based on our legitimate business interests, provided they do not override your fundamental privacy rights, specifically for maintaining cybersecurity, preventing fraud or misuse, ensuring system stability, complying with industry standards, and utilizing platform data to generate AI content.
  • Legal Obligation: We process and disclose personal data when required by applicable laws, regulations, contractual mandates, or enforceable legal processes to satisfy our statutory compliance obligations and to support law enforcement initiatives.

4. Sharing Your Information

We may share your information in the following circumstances:

  • With Service Providers: We engage trusted vendors and service providers to support our operations and carry out tasks on our behalf. These functions include cloud hosting, platform security, usage analytics, customer support, marketing, transactional messaging, AI-enriched content generation, and legal or compliance support. These providers receive only the personal data reasonably necessary to perform their functions and are contractually required to protect it and use it solely to deliver the contracted services.
  • With Business Partners: We may share personal data with selected business partners for purposes related to our business relationships, including to provide, improve, or personalize services and offerings. This may include identifiable information regarding users' preferences and interactions with the Service.
  • For Legal and Safety Reasons: We may disclose personal data if we believe it is necessary or appropriate to comply with applicable laws, court orders, or government regulations; respond to lawful requests from public authorities; detect, prevent, or address fraud, security, or technical issues; enforce our agreements and policies; protect our rights, property, or safety, as well as those of our customers, users, or others; or pursue available remedies and limit potential damages.
  • Corporate Transactions: In the event of a merger, acquisition, asset sale, or other corporate restructuring, personal data may be transferred to the acquiring or successor entity, provided that appropriate data protection safeguards remain in place and this privacy policy continues to govern the processing of such data.
  • With Your Consent: Where required, we will obtain your consent before sharing personal data for purposes not otherwise described in this Privacy Policy.

5. International Data Transfers

We may store and process your personal data regionally, as well as in the UK, US, EU and Israel. Because we operate internationally and engage global service providers, your personal data may be transferred to, stored in, or accessed from countries outside your jurisdiction of residence. If you reside in a jurisdiction where the cross-border transfer of your personal data requires consent, by using the Service, you provide us with your express and unambiguous consent to such transfers.

Whenever such transfers occur, we take appropriate steps to ensure that your personal data receives appropriate safeguards and protections in compliance with applicable data protection laws. This includes relying on adequacy decisions issued by the European Commission or UK authorities (for example, Israel is currently recognized as providing adequate protection), entering into Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) with data recipients, and, where applicable, relying on other legally recognized safeguards such as certification schemes or robust contractual commitments. These measures are designed to ensure that your privacy rights and protections travel with your personal data, regardless of where it is processed.

6. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to provide and secure the Service, keep sessions stable, remember your preferences and settings, analyze Service usage and performance, provide a more personalized experience, and support marketing campaigns by measuring effectiveness and tailoring content. Some cookies are essential for the proper operation of the Service, while others help us improve performance and enhance your experience.

We use third-party analytics tools (such as Google Analytics and PostHog, which may include session replays of how the Service is used, with typed text masked) to better understand how visitors interact with the Service. Where required by applicable law, we will use these tools only after you provide explicit consent via the cookie banner. Like many platforms, we obtain information when your browser accesses the Service, and we may use or share anonymous, statistical, or aggregated information with our affiliates for legitimate business purposes, which cannot reasonably be used to identify you.

Your consent choice is stored in your browser's local storage under the key hungru_cookie_consent_v1 (not a browser cookie). You can withdraw or change your choice at any time via the cookie banner or your browser's local storage settings. Withdrawing consent will disable and remove analytics cookies immediately.

7. AI-Enriched Content

Some content on Hungru, including restaurant descriptions, dish details, and chef profiles, may be generated or enriched using artificial intelligence (such as Google Gemini). AI-generated content is provided for informational purposes only and may be imperfect or out of date. We aim to clearly distinguish AI-assisted content where feasible.

8. Taste Personalization & Behavioral Profiling

To personalize your experience, we analyze your reviews, ratings, dish interactions, and saved items to build a taste profile. This profile — including flavor preferences, cuisine affinities, and sensory preferences — is used to generate personalized recommendations within Hungru and to provide you with a more personalized experience.

To opt out of taste profiling, email [email protected] with the subject "Opt out of profiling." We will stop building a new taste profile for your account. Note that this will disable personalized recommendations.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is intended for users who are at least 13 years old (see our Terms of Service). Children in these age groups are not permitted to create accounts or make purchases directly. Any access to the Services on their behalf must be managed through an account created by a parent or legal guardian, who is responsible for all use of the Services. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Account and Data Deletion

You may permanently delete your Hungru account and associated personal data at any time. When you confirm deletion, your account and personal data are deleted automatically.

What gets deleted:

  • Your account, profile, and all identifying information.
  • Saved items, lists, device tokens, and notifications.
  • Profile photo and uploaded images stored on our servers.

What gets anonymized (not deleted):

  • Reviews — the review content remains visible to preserve the integrity of the platform, but your name and identity are removed. The review will appear as posted by "Deleted User."
  • Comments — comments you authored remain visible but are attributed to "Deleted User." The comment content itself is not removed.

How to delete your account:

  • Signed in: open your profile → menu (⋯) → Delete my account.
  • Not signed in: sign in first, or email us from the address linked to your account.

Full instructions are on our account deletion page.

Also deleted: Search history and shared search results linked to your account, taste profile and personalization data, and contact messages you submitted.

Retained for legal compliance: A record of the deletion (date and confirmation) is kept as a compliance audit trail. Some data may also be retained where required by applicable law.

11. Data Retention

We retain personal data for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, provide and maintain the Service, comply with our legal and contractual obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, and protect our legitimate business interests. The applicable retention period depends on the nature and purpose of the information, the relationship with you, applicable legal or regulatory requirements, and our operational and business needs. When personal data is no longer required for these purposes, we will delete, anonymize, or otherwise securely dispose of it in accordance with applicable law.

You may request deletion of your data by contacting us, subject to applicable legal or regulatory retention requirements.

12. Security

We work hard to protect personal data from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. The Service is protected by a layered security program that includes physical, technical, and administrative controls, such as network firewalls and filtering, encryption in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest, strict role-based access with least-privilege and need-to-know, multi-factor authentication for privileged access, data minimization and segregation, and secure logging and monitoring. Access to personal data is restricted to authorized Hungru personnel and vetted service providers who are bound by confidentiality and security obligations.

While we take industry-standard measures and comply with applicable laws to implement these reasonable technical and organizational measures, no security system is foolproof, and no system can be guaranteed 100% secure. We are not responsible for unauthorized or unintended access beyond our reasonable control, and you use the Service at your own risk. If you believe your privacy has not been handled properly or you become aware of any attempt to access your data without authorization, please contact us at [email protected].

13. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access: Request access to the personal data we hold about you, and for certain data, where applicable, receive a portable copy.
  • Rectification: Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Erasure: Request deletion of your data (see Section 10).
  • Object: Object to processing based on legitimate interest, including profiling for personalization.
  • Restrict: Request that we restrict processing of your data in certain circumstances.
  • Withdraw consent: Withdraw consent at any time where the data processing is based on your consent.
  • Opt out of profiling: Email us to stop taste-profile processing (see Section 8a).

To exercise these rights, please email [email protected] or contact us via our form.

Supervisory authority: You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. For Israel: the Israeli Privacy Protection Authority (ILITA). For EU/EEA users: your national Data Protection Authority (find yours at edpb.europa.eu). For UK users: the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

14. Third-Party Links and Services

The Service may contain links to third-party websites and services (including Google Maps). We are not responsible for their privacy practices or content. Please review their policies before sharing your information.

15. Specific Provisions for U.S. Residents

This section applies to visitors, users, and other individuals who reside in the United States and supplements the other provisions of this Privacy Policy. It is intended to address applicable U.S. state privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended ("CCPA/CPRA"). To the extent required by applicable law, terms used in this section have the meanings given to them under the applicable law.

We collect the categories of personal information described in Section 1, including identifiers (such as name and email address), commercial information, internet or network activity, location information, and inferences derived from such information. We collect this information directly from you, automatically through your use of the Service, and from service providers and other sources described in this Privacy Policy. We use this information for the purposes described in Section 2, including to provide and improve the Service, personalize your experience, provide customer support, communicate with you, comply with legal obligations, and prevent fraud and misuse.

We may disclose personal information to the categories of recipients described in Section 4, including service providers, business partners, and other third parties. In the preceding twelve (12) months, we have not sold personal information for monetary consideration. However, certain disclosures or uses of personal information may constitute "sale" or "sharing" under applicable U.S. state privacy laws, including where third parties collect information through the Service for analytics, personalization, or marketing purposes. The categories of personal information that may be subject to such disclosures include identifiers, internet or network activity, commercial information, location information, and inferences.

We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of individuals under 13 years of age.

Depending on your state of residence, you may have additional rights regarding your personal information, including the right to access or know the personal information we collect about you, request deletion or correction of your personal information, obtain a portable copy of certain personal information, opt out of certain sales or sharing of personal information, and not receive discriminatory treatment for exercising your privacy rights. You may also have additional rights under applicable state law.

To exercise applicable rights, please contact us at [email protected] or through our contact form. We may need to verify your identity before processing your request. Where permitted by applicable law, you may use an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf. We will respond to verified requests within the time period required by applicable law. Where permitted, we may extend the response period as allowed by law.

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

Certain U.S. state privacy laws, including the CCPA/CPRA, may provide residents with the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. While we do not sell personal information for monetary consideration, certain disclosures of personal information to third parties for purposes such as analytics, personalization, or marketing may constitute "sharing" under applicable law. U.S. residents may exercise any applicable opt-out right by contacting us at [email protected].

Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" ("DNT") setting that allows users to express a preference regarding the collection of information about their online activities. At present, we do not respond to DNT signals.

16. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in law, technology, or our Services. Changes will be effective upon posting. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about our current privacy practices.
