Boba is having a moment right now—it’s everywhere—and I happen to have a little one who’s obsessed. So when we made a quick Sunday grocery run, we were excited to spot Chunky Cup in the old Sweet Frog location. Of course, before heading home, my boyfriend had to check if they had taro milk tea.
Walking in, I was instantly impressed—the aesthetic is absolutely beautiful and gives you that “this is about to be a whole experience” feeling.
They’ve got plenty of seating options, from cozy couch vibes to a large table that fits a group of 8. There’s also a super cute gift shop area with Korean fidgets and branded merch (I couldn’t resist grabbing an adorable glass tumbler for $8). They even have a photobooth and a spot to post your selfies, which makes it feel really fun and interactive.
The menu is huge, with something for everyone, plus a variety of ice cream flavors I’ve never seen before. We ordered the brown sugar ube milk tea, a classic brown sugar milk tea boba, and a taro milk tea with ube cold foam—and wow… everything was SO good. So good, in fact, I went back the very next day for another!
I also got to see what a bingsu looks like in person, and let me tell you—it looked like pure heaven. Definitely next on my list 🤤
Everything we tried was delicious, the portions were generous, and the customer service was awesome. This is officially my new go-to spot whenever we’re craving boba or a sweet treat.
It was a bit busy when we stopped by Sunday afternoon, but I went back Monday morning right when they opened at 11—and yes, I was the first one there 😂
This ice-cream was the best. I had pistachio and ube. I would definitely suggest trying something you've never really tried, I had never had either of the ones I chose but they were amazing.
It was our first time getting to check out this place. There was a small crowd in there and it stayed steady for the time we were there. The main entry places you right next to the register where the order is finalized. You gotta walk in to the far side of the counter where the ice cream choices are. There are pictures of the menu outside by the entrance and as soon as you walk in next to the merch.
My boyfriend got the affogato, normally vanilla ice cream with espresso, but he subbed it for coffee ice cream. I went for the mango bingsu, a shaved milk concoction. It was my first time trying it and I'm in love! They got really slammed and my boyfriend got his treat and finished it. A couple employees checked in and updated me. After a few more minutes, I was offered a scoop of ice cream for the wait. I tried their Thai Tea, so good! A beautiful, creamy flavor in a pastel orange color with specks throughout. I didn't mind the wait, but I also didn't mind the bonus treat!
While we waited in the back corner, we checked out the merch shelf. It had all kinds of cutesy Hello Kitty stuff and mini cups as well as shirts. There is also a photo machine where you can get a free Pic on receipt paper. It was fun checking out other people's pics as well as adding our own.
My mango bingsu came out and it was well worth the wait. The woman who I suspect may have been the owner walked from behind the counter and served it herself with a smile and sincere apology. No worries and thank you! It was bigger than I expected! It had a lovely slushy feel from the shaved milk with mango gel and a side of condensed milk to drizzle on top. They have a strawberry one I want to try next.
This is a spot I am definitely going back to. I wish my son was with us to experience it, but we will be back so he can next time. So many things to try out and new favorites to have. I also love how it's proudly women-owned and UMW alumni owned.
I love Chunky Cup!!! So excited for their 4th location and that they are bring the best bubble tea and ice cream to the Fredericksburg area! There are soooooo many drink options to chose from so there is something for every test bud. Being able to customize the sweetness also allows you to sup your drink, you're way!!! Their ice cream is made in house so the quality is always there! Highly recommend the Strawberry Shortcake and if you get two scoops try the Pandan and the Ube together!
The location is spacious so Its also a great spot to catch up with friends, get some work done, a study session since they are right there at UMW.

Delicious! Sooo many options. We have the brown sugar boba and a hot hojicha milk tea with boba. Really amazing drinks with beautiful customer service. Hopefully this place will stay open for a long time. It’s a great addition to the UMW area and community.
