Visiting the Long John Silver’s in Fredericksburg was like stepping back into my childhood in the best possible way. Growing up, Long John Silver’s was always a treat—something about the crispy seafood, the smell when you walked in, and those classic sides just stuck with you. This location brought all of those memories rushing right back.
From the moment I took my first bite, it felt just like I remembered. The fish was perfectly fresh—crispy on the outside, flaky and tender on the inside, with that signature flavor that’s hard to replicate anywhere else. And the chicken planks? Absolutely delicious. They were seasoned just right, cooked to golden perfection, and packed with flavor in every bite.
What really made the experience special was how consistent everything felt with those childhood visits. The taste, the texture, even the overall vibe—it all hit that perfect balance of nostalgia and quality.
It’s not always easy for a place to live up to the memories you build as a kid, but this Long John Silver’s absolutely delivered. If you’re looking to relive some great memories while enjoying fresh, flavorful food, this is definitely the place to stop.
Everything was fresh, service was great and prompt. Unfortunately the shrimp had an odd taste and texture :(
Edit: I've since visited this location again, got the same order, and the shrimp was many leagues above last time. Great crunch on the breading, the shrimp was pleasantly firm, with a nice flavor, not mushy or rubbery. The fish, fries, and hushpuppies were excellent both times so no comment on those
Locals visit to this new LJS location 12/18/24 2:30 PM. Vacant inside a few cars at the drive thru.
I haven't been to a LJS in 20 years and my wife has never been to one. The restaurant is new and clean inside and out. Staff are attentive but lacked any knowledge of the LJS website club and how to enter my phone number for "coins" (points) or how to redeem my sign up rewards. *Yes. They can do that! The manager figured it out but it was too late for my order. He gave me a free piece of Cheesecake Factory original cheese cake to offset it
The fish and shrimp platter was $16.99. WOW! The tempura batter is used on both the fish and shrimp. Very greasy. * See video.
The taste was ok but you know you shouldn't be eating it after the first bite. Slaw was horrible with a fermented aftertaste. Green beans were good. Hush puppies were very good with onion bits. The wife's fish combo meal was ok. The waffle fries were good.
The prepackaged tub of cocktail sauce had very little horseradish in it. Closer to packaged ketchup. Surprisingly the packaged tarter sauce was very good. They have malt vinegar available and also hot sauce (not good). I really don't like prepackaged condiments when dining inside. We paid $32.26 for 2 simple meals which is very expensive for fast food. Capt. D's has much better food for allot less $.
We won't be back.
*Note this review was completed without using ridiculous un-discriptive terms like out-of-bounds, OMG, on point, awesome, the bomb, yummy, delish, to die for, do your self a favor, trust me, or kids emojis etc.. Describe the food, service (or lack of) and provide details on the cost/copy of check and include pictures! Is the place clean? No disrespect to the employees but no one cares about the waiter/waitress/clerk names, or if they look like they fell face first into a tackle box. They get changed like underwear and you don't get to pick one. No we don't care about your allergies or the need for gluten free food.

This place brings back childhood memories, but better.
We waited in the drive through for about 20 minutes before we could order because the dine in area is still closed. However, the food we received was hot and fresh. The wait was definitely worth it.
We both ordered the #5 meal, 2 fish dinner.
The fish was extremely crispy and meaty. It is a little on the greasier side so we rate it 8/10.
As for sides, I thought the coleslaw was really good and I would definitely get it again. 9/10
The green beans were very plain, not much flavor. They tasted straight out the can with a little onion. I've had better but they weren't bad. 7/10
The rice was pretty flavorless. Nothing about it that makes us want to get it again. 6/10.
The hush puppies were really good and fresh. The flavor was there and they were pretty moist. 9/10.
The tartar sauce was okay, but tastes a lot cheaper than rival places. 7/10.
I rate the restaurant a 5 so far being my first visit due to their ability to hand out fresh food despite the extremely long line of customers they've been having. I would rate the food 4/5 though for what we've tried so far.
I'll definitely come again and try some of the other items.
