Flavorful fried chicken! Collards, mac and cheese, and fries were just okay. The chicken, fries and sauces we got were advertised as spicy but they were not at all, which was a let down, but overall enjoyed lunch here.
Really tasty fried chicken! For some reason, it was almost nostalgic for me but the crispy skin and outstanding spice blend are definitely worth getting if you're looking for good old fashioned fried chicken instead of the trendy Nashville hot chicken.
Full disclosure, my food was delivered so I didn't eat in the restaurant, but it travels pretty well. I can tell that it would have been even more delightfully crispy if I had gotten it fresh, but it still turned out good and the quality of the chicken and spices shone through. For ~$20 I ordered the whole chicken (2 drumsticks, 2 thighs, 2 wings) with the Awaze (spicy Berbere) seasoning which was a pretty reasonable value. The spice level is pretty mild, it's definitely some pleasant spice but not anything to be scared off of if you aren't spice-tolerant. Overall, I enjoyed the chicken but it didn't blow my mind or anything, and I wouldn't have minded even more seasoning on the chicken. The mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy but ultimately a little bland. I think a splash of the spicy seasoning would have really kicked it up into something nice, but it was fine at least.
I definitely recommend Doro Bet for their fried chicken, and I would be interested in returning to try some of the more classically Ethiopian dishes like their Doro Wot!
I think my husband found this spot on TikTok and we both wanted to try it next time we were in Philly.
We shared:
- Half Chicken, Lemon Turmeric
- Half Chicken, Spicy Berbere
The fried chicken was fantastic. I loved both seasonings. The spicy was probably my favorite. It wasn't all that spicy, but it was flavorful.
If you like fried chicken, I'd highly recommend checking this spot out.
One of our absolute favorite spots in the city. Some of the best fried chicken I've had, wouldn't even know its gluten free if nobody told me. The injera, stews, sides, & salads are all incredible I love the whole menu. Also they do amazing catering service for events! We were so excited when they said they could handle catering our wedding reception of 100!
They really went above and beyond to make sure our reception was delicious and memorable, so many people have told us this was the best food they've ever eaten at a wedding. They did a great job of tailoring our favorite dishes to a buffet style service and all of the food was fresh and so delicious. Doro Bet is perfect for accommodating different dietary restrictions and needs we had several vegetarians and vegans that all raved about the food. Mebruka was such a pleasure to work with and really made us feel taken care of and personally brought us plates to make sure we got to try all of the dishes! If you're looking for a catering experience that is unique and incredibly delicious definitely give Doro Bet a call!
Good tenders. I love the breading. The fries, and collars greens were flavorful. Definitely need to try the chicken again tho, because i kinda burned it in the oven when i went to heat it up. The hibiscus tea was definitely refreshing.
