The Mee Laksa was somewhat disappointing. The noodles were noticeably overcooked; even though egg noodles were used, they lacked the desirable firmness and elasticity one would expect from a well-executed Asian noodle dish. The broth leaned rather salty, whilst the sambal was regrettably lacking in depth and intensity. That said, the overall flavour remained reasonably pleasant.
The Hainanese chicken rice was particularly underwhelming. Traditionally, this dish is prepared using skin-on chicken thigh gently poached over a low heat to preserve tenderness and succulence. Here, however, it appeared that chicken breast had been used instead, resulting in dry, rather tough meat without the essential skin. The soy sauce lacked the distinctive character of authentic Malaysian soy sauce, and both the ginger-scallion sauce and accompanying condiments were equally disappointing.
The mango sticky rice was likewise a let-down, both in terms of quality and portion size.
