Additional Details
The restaurant features an intimate counter-style dining experience with only 8 seats, allowing for close interaction with the chefs. It is located in Gion, along the Shirakawa, with a waiting room on the second floor. The sushi ingredients are sourced from Kyoto, Toyosu, and Yaizu.
Reservations are highly recommended or required due to the restaurant's small size (8 seats) and high demand as a Michelin-starred establishment. Dinner is the primary meal service.
The ingredients are high-quality and incredibly fresh, and there’s a great variety in the courses, so it never feels repetitive or limited to just sushi. The service is excellent—the head chef and the rest of the team clearly love what they do. They interact with guests and provide explanations of the ingredients in English. The overall dining atmosphere is wonderful, and I highly recommend it.
An exceptional omakase experience that goes far beyond traditional sushi. The menu isn’t limited to sushi alone—there are thoughtfully curated yakitori-style courses woven in throughout, adding variety and depth to the meal. Every single dish was outstanding.
What truly elevates the experience is the attention to detail: the tableware is absolutely exquisite, and even the utensils used by the chefs during preparation are beautifully chosen.
The chef team is warm, engaging, and genuinely fun, creating a relaxed and enjoyable dining atmosphere. Overall, a memorable and delightful experience from start to finish. Highly recommended.

Excellent experience. Highly recommend. The omakase was wonderful and everyone in our group enjoyed. Beautiful setting, classy decor, intimate small restaurant. Expert staff working hard to please the customers, they work like well oiled machine and it was fun to watch synchronize their preparations. The fatty tuna and tuna slabs shown in pictures were truly amazing. Their abalone was steamed for 6hours and was truly different than any other we have had.

To be fair, I am half cut after lunch. I ventured into the Gion District of Kyoto to find a non descript door on a blank canvas building that housed one of Kyoto’s most famed Omakase experiences. It is Michelin starred, an annex to the Gion Sasaki restaurant in Kaiseki. It is touted as Kyoto-style but with Edomae sushi techniques. Kazuya Nomura is the head chef and his protege kept saying “he is my master” reminding me that these people are well accustomed to hierarchy. I don’t think I got the abalone liver, but I did get the sea urchin, the aged otaro on some form of creamy fried fish, it was the first time I believe I ate puffer fish too. I was seated next to three Americans and we spoke on the Epstein files, we were fervent, believing we had a trove of television and films for the next two decades. Rose, Sean, Steve. Lovely people. Their last day. I’ll let the videos speak for themselves and I will not, I simple refuse to use the word ‘umami’ - its driving me nuts. Tasty. Zinging. Zesty. Fresh. Sweet. Soft. Robust. I don’t know. Let’s use some other words, just not umame. And the price, around 35,000 yen. Not cheap, but 100 percent a unique and wonderful experience and the personality of Kazuya is there in his food and in his presence.

5 star everything. I cannot think of a single thing to improve on. This was my favorite omakase in Japan out of 5, including two in Ginza. Thank you so much for one of the best meals I will ever eat!
