This was a Solid lunch date experience. I have found that living in Brooklyn for the past ten years, finding a solid (all inclusive )breakfast/lunch, cafe and or dining experience is very complicated. There are a lot of great food options that are about the food … yes you can get a great bagel, a great tuna sandwich , a great omelette and a great cortado, etc… but I work very smart and sometimes I crave a place that is a combination of good food, good drinks, great comfortable atmosphere, great service and a spacious table with a strong atmosphere, and what I mean by a strong atmosphere is a kind of place that has high expectations and offers a high end full service experience (not take out or order at the counter or good luck finding a table) that is also Brooklyn unpretentiousness. I work very smart 24/7 and sometimes it’s nice to be able to stay in Brooklyn and walk into a restaurant for a lunch date and not feel like you have to “contribute “ to the experience, where you can just walk in and be seated and served with pleasure. Coming across Alta Calidad last week, on an early weekday was such a pleasant surprise and it was perfect. I wish there were more places like this on this side of the river where one can dine and truly unwind . This was an all inclusive experience… The food was good , the decor was relaxing, the tables were set, the waiter was professional and friendly, there was a bar and an additional window counter, outdoor seating , a fresh nicely designed restroom large enough for a human, an A rating , lovely view onto Vanderbilt Avenue, and best of all a table of your own. I am so grateful to have stumbled upon this location. I am now on a mission to find more local Brooklyn places like this one (especially open all day … there seem to be some that fit the bill but are only open for dinner). Yes, it’s very important for everyone to have a table of their own where they can have a nice coffee/meal, a nice conversation and once in a while a floor that’s not just clean but really dry and smooth, a chair that you can sit on completely without having to hold up half your weight so that it doesn’t collapse, and decor that takes care of itself (its nice to have a conversation without wondering if the decor is situated properly) with sturdy tables and chairs …and waitstaff that is so ready that they are almost not there.
Mexican spot that is featured on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list.
The list features restaurants that serve good food for reasonable prices and Alta Calidad delivered.
Must Try’s:
Yuca Fries + Chipotle sauce - out of the park delicious and salty
Alta Queso Fundido - probably the best thing we had. Make sure you order this. SO GOOD.
Churros - do yourself a favor and leave some room for dessert
Solid choices:
Carne Asada Tacos - would be on my must but the price point for tacos feels a little criminal. Very good but damn almost $10 per taco is rough
Pork Shoulder Carnitas - very good but again the other plates just put this to shame
Leave it:
Drinks - not a fan. Hot chocolate came out tepid and the mixed drink was just okay. Next time I’ll stick to water or coke
Verdict - solid choice for Mexican, would recommend, not in a rush to come back NYC just has too many other places to try
Never had better tasting tacos, all the dishes were fresh and exceptionally tasty. Honorable mention to their pineapple spicy margaritas, revitalising!
Would highly recommend. Excellent food and service. They accommodated a kid request to simplify the tacos and a vegetarian request to make the queso meat-free. Margaritas were good. Tacos and short rib entree were great as was the rice and beans side. Portion sizes were perfect. Tres Leche dessert was delicious. The music wasn't too loud, so were were able to easily carry on a conversation. My only observation was that the music genre didn't really match the restaurant but that was hardly an issue. 5 stars!
We had a really good meal at this Mexican restaurant. We ordered chicken tacos, shrimp tacos, and a margarita, and everything was fresh and full of flavor. The sauce on the tacos was absolutely delicious, adding the perfect touch to each bite.
The presentation was neat, and the restaurant itself was clean and well-organized. The atmosphere was pleasant, and we especially enjoyed the music playing in the background, which added to the experience.
If you’re looking for tasty food, a nice ambiance, and good music, this place is definitely worth a visit.
