Customer Perception
Customer feedback is mixed. Many praise the delicious food, authentic flavors, and excellent seafood, particularly highlighting the Jaffna Crab Roast and Fish Nirvana. The presentation of dishes is often appreciated. However, common criticisms include high prices for smaller portions, inconsistent service quality (with some recent reports of chaotic service and long wait times), and concerns about hygiene in certain areas. Some recent reviews also noted a decline in food quality, with dishes like porottas being cold or Fish Nirvana appearing undercooked.
Additional Details
The restaurant aims to blend traditional Kerala flavors with a modern, creative twist, offering a distinctive culinary journey. While some customers have noted a decline in recent experiences, it remains a destination for those seeking Kerala-inspired cuisine with a signature touch.
Weekends are typically crowded, leading to long wait times. It is advisable to book tables in advance, especially for weekend visits, to ensure a smoother dining experience.
If Kerala cuisine is your comfort food, Chef Pillai deserves a spot at the top of your list. The restaurant strikes a fine balance between authentic Kerala recipes and modern dining, bringing the state's rich coastal flavors to life without losing their soul.
We ordered 8–9 dishes and 7 mocktails, and every dish had something to admire. The absolute winner was the seafood platter served with kappa (tapioca)—a combination that's both comforting and indulgent. Pair it with Kerala Taadi, and you've got a meal that's hard to forget.
The service deserves a special mention. It wasn't just efficient—it was genuinely thoughtful. The team took the time to understand our preferences, offered recommendations based on our taste, and happily accommodated customizations. It's the kind of hospitality you'd expect at a premium four- or five-star hotel.
The best part? The entire experience cost us around ₹5,500 for four people, which felt like excellent value for the quality of the food, service, and overall experience.
Great food, warm hospitality, and a menu that celebrates Kerala with confidence—Chef Pillai is a place I'd happily return to.
RCP is a great choice for connoisseurs of authentic Kerala cuisine. The impression that ome gets on entering the establishment is that they take the culinary experience very seriously. The walls of the restaurant are decked up with photos showing Chef Pillai woh numerous celebrities such as film stars,(mainly Malayalam), cricketers and politicians. The decor also consists of items that reflect Malayali culture.
The main dining area is comfortable with options for families, groups or couples.
One drawback is lack of a printed menu. The menu is required to be scanned which is not convenient for groups and for the elderly. A printed menu would be highly desirable.
Our group ordered Kerala toddy, Sulaimani, Buttermilk and Virgin mojito for drinks. The Kerala toddy was made of coconut with a dash of ginger and it was delicious. The rest were well prepared and tasty.
For food, we ordered Malabar nool paratta, Kuthari choru, Thalassery biryani, Nikkah biriyani,
Chayakadda pothu Kootan, Chicken ghee roast, Mutta appam and Ashtamudi fish curry.
The Nikkah biriyani, Nool.paratha and Ashtamudi fish curry were delicious. Chicken ghee roast had a slight sweetness to it, which we felt was not comparable to the Mangalore ghee roast. Thallaserry biriyani had a subtle sweetness, which was true to the original , and excellently made.
RCP has some innovative Kerala inspired desserts.
We tried and found the palada cheesecake and unniappam falooda to be good.
Coming to service, the staff were very coutteous, pleasant and helpful. But the service was very slow. The few serving staff seemed overwhelmed when the restaurant was full. This increased the wait time substantially.
The price point is also on the higher side, but this is justified by the quality of the dishes served.
Valet parking is available, which is absolutely required, as the place is located on the busy main road opposite to Phoenix Mall.
On the whole, it is an excellent choice for those who wish to savour authentic Malayali cuisine.

Had an amazing dining experience at Chef Pillai! The food was absolutely delicious and full of authentic flavor. But the real star of the meal was the Jaffna Crab Roast — honestly one of the tastiest crab dishes I’ve ever had.
Paired with rice, it was simply heavenly. The masala, spice balance, freshness, and rich flavor were on another level. Even thinking about it makes my mouth water!
Definitely a must-try dish for anyone visiting this restaurant — don’t leave without trying the Jaffna Crab Roast.
We also tried some prawn dishes and other seafood items, and everything was excellent. Great taste, quality, ambiance, and overall experience. Highly recommended for seafood lovers!

Great experience overall!
Thoroughly enjoyed the Fish nirvana with nool porotta. Loved all the non veg and veg curries as well. I didn’t enjoy Ingi pulli chicken wings as I hoped as it was sweeter than expected. We were a huge group of 14 and everyone enjoyed the food.
I loved the pacha manga kandari mulake juice. That was amazing 😋. Right amount of bitter, salt and hotness in a cup. Highly recommend!
The only thing to remember while visiting the restaurant is that the wait times are long as it gets really busy. So definitely go early. They had a cute snack shop in front. So waiting was not a problem for us. 😄

Had a really great experience here! I was craving authentic Kerala cuisine for a long time, and this place absolutely delivered. The parotta was amazing, and everything we ordered was authentic and delicious. The only item that didn’t quite meet our expectations was the banana chat, but overall it was a wonderful dining experience. Definitely worth visiting!
