Elegant cafe. Ground-floor is nice, but first floor is fancy. First floor you seem to get a table if you have a reservation.
We tried to original Sacher chocolate cake and the Afpel strudel. Both were tasty, the chocolate cake wasn't extremely heavy which was a good surprise.
The service was quick and extremely friendly, not pushy at all, but just efficient and friendly.
We visited with our dog to enjoy a slice of the traditional Sacher Torte, and the experience was wonderful from start to finish. We received a warm welcome and were given a perfect table where our dog could comfortably relax. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive, and even brought a bowl of water for our dog, which made us all feel very welcome.
The Sacher Torte was excellent, and the homemade lemonade was the perfect refreshment on a hot summer day.
I noticed that some reviews mention the prices being high, but in my opinion you’re paying for much more than just the cake. You’re also paying for the history, outstanding service, and the unique atmosphere. It was absolutely worth the visit.

The birthplace of the Sacher cake.
Had luck when visiting, there was no line.
Although when we left there was a line, but with more efficient work, that could have been resolved.
Place was extremely touristy. And that did reflect on the pasteries.
But very much worth the visit for any foodies.

This place is definitely worth checking out if you’re visiting Vienna! However, the coffee and chocolate cake were below average, especially considering the amazing options available in the city.
I noticed that everyone in the comments mentioned the dry texture of the chocolate cake. While I usually enjoy cakes, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, the cake even more disappointing that I thought
It’s unfortunate to see a brand and establishment with such a strong presence in Vienna becoming a tourist attraction. They could easily improve their quality, but I doubt they’ll do so. In my opinion, this place is only worth visiting once.

No More Long Queues for the Original Sacher-Torte in Vienna!
At Hotel Sacher, culinary heritage runs as deep as the building’s legendary history. Whether you are a guest of the hotel or just visiting Vienna, trying the world-famous Original Sacher-Torte has become an almost ritual pilgrimage. Crafted following a centuries-old secret recipe, this treat features its signature crisp chocolate shell handmade by skilled confectioners. Such devotion to tradition means long lines always form outside Café Sacher, where travellers patiently wait to taste this timeless classic.
If you wish to avoid the crowds, the hotel houses three exclusive dining venues. Rote Bar, Blaue Bar and Grüne Bar, where you can still savour the Original Sacher-Torte in peace.
Staying at Hotel Sacher comes with an unbeatable perk: you never need to join the endless queues outside. The iconic cake is thoughtfully placed on your bedside table, and it always takes centre stage at the morning breakfast spread. Breakfast is served at Grüne Bar and Rote Bar in the classic European semi-buffet style, turning every morning meal into an elegant ritual steeped in Viennese imperial charm.
The Original Sacher-Torte undoubtedly steals the spotlight on the buffet. Its velvety chocolate layers and rich apricot jam filling accompany guests from the first light of dawn. Beyond the classic torte, you will find dozens of traditional Austrian pastries: Sacher chocolate cake, spiced cream cake, apricot, almond and rosemary cake, Austrian apple strudel, blackcurrant cheesecake and more, offering an incredible range of authentic local flavours.
Every detail and presentation on the buffet exudes timeless elegance. Sparkling breakfast wine is chilled in ice buckets, while the hotel’s iconic bear trolley, modelled after its classic bellhops, adds a delightful touch. From house-made jams to freshly baked bread, meticulous care is evident everywhere. The cold buffet showcases fresh fruits and yoghurt laid over crushed ice, alongside an abundant selection of cold cuts and cheeses. The warm bread station fills the air with the inviting aroma of buttery croissants and bread rolls, best enjoyed with artisanal jams and honey — the very essence of a traditional Viennese breakfast.
For an extra touch of luxury, a made-to-order hot menu is also available. Indulge in caviar scrambled eggs, lobster eggs, smoked salmon eggs and truffle ham eggs, all served on buttery brioche and drizzled with rich hollandaise sauce, elevating the breakfast experience to pure opulence.
