Customer Perception
Customers consistently praise the exceptional service, with specific shout-outs to servers like Kyle and Brandon. The ambiance is described as warm, beautiful, and perfect for a fancy date night. Dishes are generally well-received for their beautiful presentation and rich flavors, with the Spicy Duck Fat Wontons, Sweet and Sour Halibut, and Lava Potato Purée frequently highlighted as standouts. Some feedback suggests that while many dishes are delicious, a few appetizers like the egg rolls or potstickers might not appeal to everyone's taste, and some fried items could have more consistent texture.
Additional Details
Night Rooster Dallas is a collaboration with Hooper Hospitality. The menu features a blend of traditional Chinese flavors with modern twists and local Texas influences, presented in an elevated fine dining format.
My friend and I dined here and had an enjoyable time. Parking was easy and we were seated quickly. The service amongst our waitress and staff was great and very attentive!
We started out with a few appetizers - lobster and shrimp air egg rolls, jumbo wagyu cheeseburger potstickers, duck fat spicy chicken wontons, and the drunken yellowtail. I really enjoyed the wontons (wasn’t overly spicy) and yellowtail (very fresh) but the eggroll could’ve held more flavor (the dipping sauce was good) and if you enjoy cheeseburgers you’ll like the potstickers (wasn’t for me).
For the main, we shared the prime filet and broccoli + added a side of steamed white rice and lava potato puree. The beef and broccoli were delicious and meat cooked well but I would’ve enjoyed a little bit more sauce. The puree was tasty and was a nice addition to the meal. We ended with tea and a matcha dessert - we enjoyed both!
Overall, this was a good dining experience and definitely recommend!
Great Chinese food. Not a large menu but it covers almost everything. Dumpling , bao bun, fried rice, duck….. food is presented beautifully and taste delicious. Place is designed nicely. Totally a great experience.

My wife and I have been waiting to try this place since before it opened, and finally we did! Literally every dish was amazing. Our server, Brandon, was incredibly friendly and helpful and very funny. The atmosphere of the restaurant was beautiful and everything. We can’t wait to come back!

I did watch Chef Shirley Chung on Top Chef and was here for her food! It did not disappoint: Maybe an upscale place won’t like hearing this, but even the kids loved this place! Now, the kids in my party aren’t picky in the stereotypical picky-kid sense, as in they actually eat a good variety of foods and like trying new things, but they will have *strong* opinions about what they like and dislike. Night Rooster landed squarely on the good side of their opinion.
We all did the prix fixe menu and ordered a variety of things, so we could all sample as wide a variety of their menu as possible. Some standouts:
APPETIZERS - Chef Shirley started out with dumplings and the Cheeseburger Dumplings (in the photo with the egg rolls) were, sure enough, juicy and scrumptious and a good filling to wrapper ratio. One of the kids who normally do not like sushi/sashimi, loved the Yellowtail and Jicama Crudo. The Lobster & Shrimp Air Eggrolls were fried crispy (but not oily!) and I loved the flavor of the light and airy filling, which I’ve never gotten that texture (light and airy) before in egg roll fillings.
My absolute favorite appetizer was the Spicy Wontons! It is actually spicy, not yt people spicy. But the flavor is incredible.
ENTREES - I enjoyed their take on Orange Chicken and Beef and Broccoli, made with premium meats and they do taste it. The beef is far more tender than normal beef and broccoli and the chicken was more flavorful. And this is not just the money talking because I didn’t know they used premium chicken and beef until I read the review in D Magazine. Then after I saw that bit of information I thought, yes that makes sense. The Spicy Garlic Prawns, not spicy but great stir-fry flavor, large and juicy. The Tea-Smoked Duck is good, though I did think that cooking was a bit uneven—cooking the duck breast to the perfect doneness, which it was, meant that the legs were slightly undercooked.
My favorite entree was the Soy-Marinated Chicken my friend ordered. The amazing savory flavor was marinated all the way through the chicken into the bone! No dry, bland chicken breast here.
DESSERTS - Had both the White Chocolate Cheesecake and the Mango Grapefruit Sago options. The Sago was a surprise hit with the kids! All except one of them preferred it over the cheesecake—I know, right? I can see why. It was a perfect balance of tart and sweet and refreshing. The Cheesecake was no slouch either. The matcha sauce is to die for.
MISC THOUGHTS:
- Great value. Portion sizes are large. We had leftovers, which brings me to…
- …they still tasted great as leftovers! I think that’s one of the advantages of Chinese food in that they heat back up well.
- Service-wise, I appreciated that we were left alone to visit and talk, and weren’t made to answer questions constantly with our mouths full. I just thought it might’ve veered a little too much into that territory. I think if the intervals between someone checking in on us were about 5 minutes shorter, it would have been perfect.
- Love the loving attention to detail in this place. The claw-shaped door opener, the logo which is the Chinese astrological character for “chicken”, the between-courses amuse bouche duck broth served in a beautiful little porcelain cup, and the paper-thin rice crackers served with it that the kids *raved* about, etc.
- I find the lighting in the bathrooms to be a bit too dim.

Every dish was memorable. It’s a really pretty spot and our server was super nice too! We had our pre-teen/teen kids with us and they were treated very kindly as well. We forgot to take a photo of the matcha cheesecake but it was absolutely delicious! We drove an hour in traffic from Denton but it was worth it we’ll be back for sure.
