Indico

Its a very pretty and quirky Indian restaurant, drinks menu has a selection of cocktails and non alcoholic cocktails along side soft drinks. The menu was printed on a paper giving it a newspaper feel which was a nice touch. The cutlery comes in a pretty tea pot. The staff were lovely and checked on us throughout. We ordered the gol guppa bombs and fish pakora for starters, the gol guppa bombs were flavourful however there was too much yogurt on them. I would have preferred without. The fish Pakora wasn't like a mixed grill one. They were shaped like chips and came with a mayonnaise type sauce which I didnt understand. It was ok but wouldn't order again. For the main we ordered the Thali's which are amazing for the price! There are three options. I enjoyed the lamb roganjosh and chicken tak tak. For dessert we ordered the trip icecream and the brownie. The ice cream was delicious. Overall the food was very yummy and was presented well. Staff were amazing.

The food at Indico is absolutely amazing. It’s a lovely restaurant located within The Mailbox, offering a great menu with plenty of options to choose from. On previous visits I’ve tried the Malai burger, which was delicious, but when I visited on Friday I opted for the Thali and it did not disappoint. The flavours were incredible and everything was cooked to perfection. The service is always quick and fabulous; the team are welcoming and the customer service is fantastic. A special shoutout to Sujesh, who looked after us during our visit on Friday. His service and hospitality were outstanding. Will definitely be back!

This place is amazing, from the time you walk in to when you leave, you will feel most welcome. This is not just a restaurant but a complete dinning experience. The staff and the atmosphere of the place is 10 out of 10, do take time to check out the art work on the walls and take a look around. The food was amazing, I went for the dehli butter chicken and it was as good as the butter chicken I had at Connaught Place in dehli the birth place of butter chicken Everything we ordered tasted amazing and all the questions we asked about the food and restaurant were answered with passion from the staff, they seemed very proud of the food and passion that went into making it. You can even see into the kitchen where the chefs are happily working away - i recommend saying help and telling them how much you enjoyed your food. A top place to visit

So this find was a classic example of why you don’t plan your meals in advance. Parking in the Mailbox Q-Park, which is absolute rats’ nest of a place, managed to come out using the wrong lift. Serendipitously, this lift brought me out on the upper level of the Mailbox, onetime home of luxury shops and, it turns out still home to a smattering, albeit a dwindling one, of restaurants. I had no plans other than to eat, here were restaurants – a match made, as they say, in heaven. The subtle nudge of fate. Now I used to eat in the Mailbox all the time, a few years back, but then GBK closed, and Pizza Express closed and what was left all seemed a bit sad, so this was territory both familiar yet also much changed. Like the whispered memory of a dream, half-remembered. Walking through, thinking of summers gone by, and spotted this Indian street food place, Indico – smart looking restaurant and, by coincidence, in the unit that used to b occupied by GBK. As I say, I had no plans, the restaurant looked quiet and the seekh kebab roll on the menu was whispering to me. On entering as I say, it was quiet, but I guess that was to be expected for a Tuesday evening – seated straight away (by the window, the seat layout hasn’t changed since this was GBK) and offered menus and drinks. The beer was Cobra, of course it was, for that is the beer – Cobra in tall and slender pint glasses. Cold and foamy. Nectar of the soul. The menu here is absolutely brimming with choice, and it all sounds quite fantastic. If the seekh kebab hadn’t been whispering to me already, I would have had trouble choosing – they offer a range of classics, some excellent street food options and also thalis. An abundance, no less. I thought about having small plates to start but opted against as I thought my seekh kebab might be quite large and I was planning on having it with chips. Yes, chips. For they do Masala chips. The food arrived hot and swiftly, as street food should – the seekh kebab roll resplendent in a rolled paratha, a generous portion. The chips were in a small bowl and some mint sauce was present. All good. Excellent flavours to all of the food and I would comment it to anyone. I f I visited Birmingham more often, I would definitely add this to my rotation. I hope this place goes on to be a small chain, as it would be good to encounter this quality and variety of menu in other places more often. The place had become livelier by the end of the meal, with several large work groups present – I notice they have a large selection of gins, so possibly that is also a draw. I don’t drink gin in public though, it doesn’t end well. Messy. Service throughout the meal was excellent. Overall, this place is definitely deerdog recommended and I give a firm two paws up – it goes to show that the loss of an old favourite doesn’t preclude the rise of something equally as good in it’s place. I may no longer be able to get the camemburger here, but now I can have a seekh kebab roll, and that is good.
