This restaurant is absolutely perfect from start to finish... they accommodated an intolerance when I phoned up a day or so before and were very engaging and happy to do so.
The food is absolutely perfect, with every course using different flavours and techniques to make the dish exquisite.
The service is just right, both friendly and welcoming, as well as professional and attentive. Every interaction was balanced and never feeling intrusive.
We were staying masham for a weekend away and booked in advance... if we are to stay close by again, we will absolute be back!!
Had a truly fantastic meal here!
Service was first class, friendly and attentive but not intrusive.
All 8 courses were delicious, we particularly enjoyed the beef and the monkfish.
They bake their own bread too, which was sublime!
Highly recommended!

Having stayed in Masham numerous times, we have always been intrigued by Where There’s Smoke, but we never managed to book far enough in advance to secure a table. We felt incredibly lucky to finally get a reservation to celebrate our anniversary, and it was absolutely worth the wait.
From the moment we arrived, the welcome was warm and friendly. A highlight for us was how each course was explained in great detail, it really added to the experience and showed the passion behind the menu. The food itself was presented to the highest standards and tasted fantastic, with the wood-fired flavours coming through on certain dishes.
We opted for the wine flight, which complemented the food superbly. Despite the high quality of the food, the setting remained relaxed and intimate, which was perfect for a special occasion. If you are visiting Masham, make sure to book early; this is a star of a restaurant that we can’t wait to return to.

Stunning - nothing less. Just count the meals you've really enjoyed on your fingers - got any left? then go to this restaurant and count one more. The meal was first class, matched by the service and attention to detail.
My wife and I have eaten in the Far East, throughout France, Italy and Spain but this was special.
Treat yourself. You will not be disappointed.

Our second time spending our anniversary at Where There's Smoke and it was just as incredible (if not more so) than the first time we came. I always feel so special dining here, from the little handwritten note on the table just for us, to the tailored menu with our name on, to the fact that the chef has tailored the entire menu to accommodate me being gluten and dairy free without feeling like I'm missing out.
The atmosphere is very relaxing; soft lighting, a range of excellent music and a small number of covers with attentive service from the staff along with a well-paced tasting menu gives a truly wonderful dining experience.
The food is incredible, every dish has a standout hero element or flavour and you can taste the work that has gone in to making it. I particularly love the smoked oil emulsion (please sell it in bottles!!) as I can't eat the marmite butter. This time round I think we both loved the smoked trout, and the hogget dishes, along with the extra scallop dish that wasn't on the menu.
Extra special thanks to restaurant manager John for ordering in some alcohol-free sparkling wine whilst we do dry November.
