Decided to book here as a surprise for my wife’s birthday on our last day at Newquay. From start to finish the journey we were taken on with so many flavours during the experience. My favourite was the chocolate tart which just made my tastebuds dance. To top the experience off my wife was presented a birthday card where all the staff had signed. To finish they provided a candle desert where she had to make a wish. A beautiful experience. Thanks for making my wife’s birthday so special.
My husband and I, decided to book lunch here for our Anniversary. We live locally and it was our first visit. We have travelled a lot and eaten in some amazing restaurants around the world and I must say we were both in agreement, The Ugly Butterfly was certainly out there on top. We had the 4 course menu, every dish was immaculate and delicious. The four courses were also accompanied by their own home made bread and butter as well as additional extra tasters, we certainly did not leave hungry. My friend has already booked after my praise of the place today. The staff were also on point and clearly work hard to know all the dishes and ingredients. Service in hospitality isn’t always great in the uk, but when we get it right we nail it. Well done to Adam and his team, what an awesome place. We will definitely be coming back :)

We had an afternoon tea here and it’s a very good value for money.
It’s great to have something like this in Cornwall, plenty for parking, easy to get to, service was brilliant, high quality, food is fresh and delicious, we even got a free upgrade on the champagne we ordered as they didn’t have the one we selected from the menu. However, we expected a slightly bigger space, it’s not a big restaurant. Overall the place is highly recommended.
Excited to try a set menu here next.

We had a wonderful experience celebrating my birthday with the team at Ugly Butterfly! Everyone was so welcoming, and we absolutely loved the little surprise from the team.
Everything was so thoughtful, from the care and attention that went into the food and every little detail, to the birthday card and candle. We truly loved the experience, and thank you for making today so special and unforgettable!

I had such a special experience at Ugly Butterfly in Newquay, it’s easily one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time.
I don’t drink, so I went for the non-alcoholic pairing with the tasting menu, and honestly it was incredible. Everything felt really well thought out and it actually elevated the whole meal. Some of the mocktails and alcohol-free wines were some of the best I’ve had since going sober, which isn’t something you come across often.
The food was just exceptional, a proper 10 out of 10. You can really feel the focus on seasonal Cornish ingredients throughout. The lobster was the highlight for me, perfectly cooked and full of flavour, but every course was strong. Even the bread and butter, which sounds like such a small thing, was ridiculously good and one of those moments you actually remember.
The pacing of the tasting menu felt spot on, nothing rushed, nothing dragging, just a really enjoyable flow from start to finish. There’s loads of attention to detail without it ever feeling overworked or trying too hard.
We got really lucky with the weather too. It was a beautiful day and the sunset from the restaurant was unreal, it added so much to the whole experience.
The staff made a big difference as well. Everyone was so friendly, relaxed and genuinely knowledgeable. They explained everything in a way that felt natural and not scripted, which made it all feel even more enjoyable.
Overall it just felt like one of those meals where everything clicks. Amazing food, incredible setting and great people. I’d go back in a heartbeat.
