First time at Market and it was listed as a top spot in Canmore. Small intimate place. A little loud for the space. Welcomed and sat us early for our reservation. Table near the washroom ( not my fav- we moved it farther back to one side to not be as near the hall for the washroom). Perhaps they should keep the table in the new spot. Got water right away but service to get drinks was a wait. Restaurant was packed. All the servers were young- not discriminating. Just an immediate observation. Another table made eye contact and said that they waited 20 min for service. She eventually came over on the way to the washroom and said run. She said it took 20 min for a pop and salad. Salad has no dressing and they had to ask for dressing. They ended up leaving. Our server came over- did not announce his name. He looked very nervous. He took my drink order , my friends drink order then wanted our food order which I hate. I prefer a drink to start and time to review the menu and on my drink. Luckily we knew what we were ordering, and from the looks of it we would never get him back to the table. So we ordered. My friend asked about an add on to her order and he said it can be done so she gave her order and I gave mine. He then asked her for her drink order which she already gave. Again, clearly he was nervous. He was trying to recall everything but he had it in front of him on his little tablet. It was a bit chaotic and disappointing. He then tried to repeat her food order to her and said the wrong one. I asked if he could please repeat the whole order back. The food! The food was incredible. We for the Sicilian caprese ( such a nice elevated take on the original caprese). I ordered duck confit and she got mushroom risotto with added prawns. It was all exceptional! Salad. Her risotto and shrimps were huge! My duck was cooked perfectly! The food made up for the nervous service. I respect and appreciate their being young and they were trying but on a busy Friday night they need to be on their A game. I also overheard a comment / question from another server to the table beside us that should have been worded very differently. Just needs time and training. It’s clear it’s a local spot as I could see many tables just hanging out eating and talking to staff. Overall I had a great night and would happily go back! Just a little more training needed.
