SILK

So I went here on a date with my girlfriend 3 months ago. The restaurant was not what we expected, when we arrived there was 3 out of the 5 or something entrees unavailable for order and my date was forced to get the whole head of cabbage instead of the fish that she wanted. As we were waiting for our order we noticed the larger table behind us getting served the fish which they said was unavailable. I find it quite ridiculous that despite such a small menu they’re unable to keep items stocked up for customers even when they’re open for such a short amount of time in the evenings. Furthermore I ordered the dry aged Ribeye and the portion was tiny and I feel like the teriyaki sauce they added to the rice cheapened the dish. The whole head of cabbage was almost inedible past a few bites. Service was good though.

Last weekend, we visited SILK, a charming modern Asian restaurant and bar located in Amsterdam’s Old West neighbourhood. Although intimate in size, the venue offers a refined dining experience, complemented by a minimalist and contemporary interior that creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. We started the evening with espresso martinis, followed by a bottle of Haru Rosé, which was refreshingly crisp and pleasantly fruity. To share, we ordered the oysters, tempura-fried mushrooms, beef skewers, and prawn toast, all of which were beautifully prepared and full of flavour. For dessert, we enjoyed the burnt Basque cheesecake, which was the perfect ending to the meal. Whether you’re looking for an elegant spot for a date night or a stylish venue to enjoy drinks and bites with friends, SILK is an excellent choice. I would highly recommend it.

The food was a bit hit-or-miss, but the staff was lovely and very helpful. We had two good courses, one mediocre and one quite bad. We did get a full refund on the bad course though, and the staff passed our comments to the chef.

The service here is great with super nice personnel. The food is quite expensive for what it offers. We were quite disappointed with it, but we were quite hungry so we ate it. We tried ordering more. I did not take a picture of all the dishes but really the best out of all were the fried cauliflower, which says a lot since fried food is quite simple to please people. Overall, I would not really be eager to come back to this restaurant to eat. The vibe was nice.
