Wow, this place was magnificent! Jean-Robert's style of cuisine, atmosphere, service, and view were incredible. We had dinner there with friends on Black Friday, for the first time, and it knocked our socks off. The French onion soup was to die for. The shrimp maisonette was so saucy and delicious. My short rib mac & cheese blew my mind. Needless to say, we all left very full and very happy after a long day of shopping!! Quite the hidden gem in East Walnut Hills. Private parking is available in the garage at Edgecliff Condos. Simply a top-notch experience at this local French restaurant. Would highly recommend checking them out. Yummo 😋.
Very disappointing, way over priced.
Let's start with the positive : the staff is very welcomy, smily and professional, the bred was really good, the terrasse and the view beautiful.
Now the food is something else : the tartare was bland and the seasoning really badly done. The mimosa eggs felt industrial.
The wedge salad was a disgrace: clearly the blue cheese sauce was industrial (not made in house) and the lardons... something to be desired.
The goddess salad was badly cut, really not easy to eat.
Then I took the duo of duck : never seen such bad quality duck! It wasn't even red like a normal duck breast : it was white like veal meat. And badly cooked. The fat of the breast was not seared as it should be.
The sides of the scallops were difficult to define : no texture, no taste like they came out of a tin can.
Desserts were OK : I took the tarte tatin which was just about right.
The waiting time between the dish was quite long, taking into account the restaurant wasn't completely full.
All in all, very disappointing, we paid a lot for a meal that could have been prepared in a school canteen and of a quality way below of what could be expected of a chef.
I do not recommend at all, unless they get their act together in the kitchen.
We were really looking forward to this dinner after finding out there was still a JR restaurant in town. I had previously frequented Restaurant L so was excited. The service was excellent and the staff very pleasant. But the food was so so. We wanted french onion soup but the menu had recently changed and it was not on there. I also wanted the crab cakes but those had also been removed. Bread was good, had a French 57 drink which was lovely. Unfortunately dinner was so so. Scallops were tough and didn't taste fresh. The beef was described as tender melt in your mouth but was also tough. Desserts were ok but tasted off like maybe prepared the day beforeo and refrigerated vs fresh. Dinner was expensive. We felt sad bc of our prior experiences with JR Restaurants. Reading the other posts, maybe it was just a bad night. We may try it again to see if it was just a bad night.
Chef Jean-Robert arrived in Cincinnati in 1993. The year I was born and he unfortunately passed on my birthday on the 23rd. He was so amazing and had a understanding of food that is unmatched. I hate blue cheese and always refused to eat it but when he served a blue cheese risotto, I couldn't stop eating it. Food is a way to show love, it is art, it is a necessity of life and no one has shown me more art, more life than he did. R.I.P We will always miss you
I’m THRILLED I picked this restaurant for my birthday dinner! This was truly the most delicious & enjoyable dining experience I’ve ever had. I found each dish not only delectable (I ate every drop & crumb) but also INSPIRING! I felt moved by each dish’s unique & clever appearance, smell, and taste (and I certainly do not feel this way each time I eat out!) This was also my first time eating snails & crab and I was so pleasantly surprised! Also each server/staff member that I personally experienced (and those I observed from my table) was so professional, kind, & informative but also they felt CALM & HAPPY (unfortunately, at many other restaurants, I sometimes sense unease & stress from some of the staff which can make my dining experience less comfortable too as I’m a bit of an empath). They are really doing something very special at Le Bar A Boeuf! I cannot thank you all enough for a birthday dinner I will always treasure!!
