Food was top notch. Their burger was delicious and everything you would want out of a burger. Their burger sauce was noteworthy too. Most places have a burger sauce that is generic and frankly tasteless, but this was so good! The pizza looked and smelled so good that we ended up getting some as an appetizer. It was amazing, some of the best pizza in the area.
The ambiance was great. They did a fantastic job making the rooftop feel lively and warm. The host said we could seat ourselves upstairs. I’m not sure if it was supposed to be or not since it’s so new, but it probably would have been easier for patrons and staff if they had a host seating patrons.
Regarding the service, my expectations are always low for new restaurants, especially on weekend nights. The experience fell below that, even with that low expectation. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, of course. It was a busy night, but as someone who has worked in restaurants, I was still surprised.
I do have one concern that might be controversial. The menus were made with generative AI. I don’t patronize businesses that use AI to advertise or in any creative endeavors. AI usage is a sign of low-quality and I don’t trust businesses that use it. I really would hope to see this change. Once again, it is a new restaurant, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt.
I can’t wait to go back. The price was what you expect for the area. Considering Cleveland Park has had multiple businesses close recently, I am hoping Highlands Tavern can become a neighborhood staple.
