Thea Thalassa

Thea Thalassa was one of the first restaurants we visited during our stay in Afytos, and it turned out to be the perfect introduction to both the town and Greek cuisine. We came for dinner and were lucky enough to get a table right at the edge of the terrace overlooking the sea. The view was absolutely stunning, with the coastline and the sunset creating one of the most memorable dining experiences of our trip. For anyone who appreciates great food and beautiful scenery, this location is hard to beat. Even in late May the restaurant was quite busy, so I would definitely recommend making a reservation during the peak season. As many other reviews mention, the prices are a little higher than in some nearby restaurants, but the quality fully justifies the cost. Everything we ordered was fresh and delicious. I chose a local fish recommended by the staff and followed their suggestion to have it fried rather than grilled. It was excellent and clearly very fresh. My partner ordered a shrimp dish and was equally happy with his meal. Before ordering, we were served water, bread, olives, olive oil, and salt. These are charged separately, which is worth knowing in advance, but they were a nice start to the meal. Overall, this is not the cheapest place in town, but it is one of those restaurants where you genuinely feel that you are paying for quality ingredients, careful preparation, and a memorable experience. One thing that particularly impressed us was the owner. We overheard him speaking with another table about his philosophy: there is no magic behind great food, just excellent ingredients, reliable recipes, and doing the job properly every single day. Seeing him personally present in the restaurant, talking with guests and greeting people passing by, made it clear that this is a well-loved local business with a strong reputation among both residents and visitors. The service was good, although not especially fast. The restaurant was very busy, and the staff seemed to have a lot on their hands. There is perhaps some room for improvement in this area, but it did not take away from the overall experience. We left feeling grateful for the recommendation. If you are looking for authentic Greek food, fresh seafood, breathtaking sea views, and one of the most memorable dining experiences in Afytos, Thea Thalassa is absolutely worth visiting. We would happily return on our next trip.

Best restaurant we tried in our 4 days trip in Greece. And also best city we visited in Kassandra. The food was great, their offer on the menu is pretty wide and the fish plates all are really tasty and fresh. Highly recommended.

Great food, great service and amazing view! We had mussels, seafood pasta and chicken souvide. With tarama to start. Everything was delicious. Service was perfect. And did I mention the view?

Located in the traditional Greek village of Afitos, Thea Thalassa is a beautiful spot perched on the hillside, offering views over the valley and the sea. The village itself is charming, with picturesque streets, lovely houses, plenty of souvenir and clothing shops, and adorable cats everywhere. The restaurant has a nice, elegant ambiance, and if you want a table with a view, a reservation is definitely recommended. We didn’t have one, but a table freed up after about 10 minutes. Unfortunately, it was indoors near the kitchen, which was noisy and felt cramped, with the air conditioning blowing directly on us — not the most pleasant experience. The staff were friendly and helpful, but the place was quite busy. As for the food, I was expecting something more impressive. The starters were interesting and tasty, but the main pasta dishes were pretty basic. The menu overall felt limited, and prices are on the normal-to-expensive side considering the experience. The view is nice but not breathtaking, and keep in mind the beach is very far down in the valley, so it’s not convenient for beachgoers. Parking is also tricky — it’s best to leave your car in the large parking area at the entrance and walk, otherwise you risk getting stuck in the narrow streets. Overall, a beautiful location to visit for a stroll, shopping, and maybe a meal, but the restaurant itself didn’t fully live up to the hype for me.
