The Devil's Advocate

Nested in advocates close this place has a unique atmosphere and it’s quite elegant inside. I sat outside so it wasn’t that cozy. The service was excellent and pre prices are fair for the location. The menu is diverse and interesting. Unfortunately the food itself lacked taste and balance. I started with the beet tartare which was described as smoked beetroot tartare. There was absolutely no smoked taste. It was quite bland and lacked salt and some sort of crostini or something crunchy to go with it. For my main I had the pork chops that were quite tasty and tender. The sides were super bland lacking flavor. All and all it was OK but I would not go back for the food.

A must try in Edinburgh ! A great restaurant in the heart of the city. They have a great selection of whiskeys. The drinks selection are amazing. The food is amazing. We had the ribey, flat Iron, Venison & the COD. The meats were cooked to perfection. My only downside is the COD, although it eas cooked very well but it was a soup, I prefer if they reduce it and make it as a sauce. The staff are great. They are very friendly and helpful one of the best services I had. I do recommend to book in advance as I did not have a booking and we waited for around an hour at the bar.

Just an awesome, rockin' final meal in Edinburgh - fantastic food, good service and energized local vibe! Absolute must to get reservations! We tried on our first week in Edinburgh and failed, but were able to make reservations 3 weeks out for our last night in Scotland, and we are glad we did. Pork cracklins were a bit hard and crunchy, but everything else was perfect. We had fresh bread and langostinis for starters, along with a smokey whiskey cocktail, the Smoked Indiscretion! For mains we enjoyed the poached Cod, and the Pork with Barley. Service was very good, and wine selection was extensive. Atmosphere was loud with music and locals' chatter in the bar below, but dark tables and heavy wood panels made it a perfect place for a couple celebrating 3 weeks of travel. Highly recommend a visit to the Devil's Advocate, if you can book a table in advance.

Very nice decorated establishment, very friendly staff. We had a great seating upstairs. The choice was plenty and the food was great! Our reservation was a bit late in the evening, so not everything on the menu was available and they were very sorry to inform us the Guinness was no longer available. But other then that we had a great time. As dessert I had a nice whisky tasting brought to the table by a staffmember with knowledge about the different glasses. Had a great time here, can recommend it!

Great place for a drink. Incredible atmosphere. They have lots of libations and you can go on a Scottish Road Trip with their flights. The food was not as good as I hoped and they said they were out of deserts even though we were the earliest reservation of the night. They also overcharged me $20, but thankfully I noticed. I would come for a drink and skip the food.
