Sushi Arai offers an intimate and elevated omakase sushi experience in the Ginza district of Chuo City. Helmed by master Chef Arai, who has forged his own distinctive style despite being one of the youngest sushi chefs in town, the restaurant provides a quiet, ceremonial dining atmosphere focused on the freshest, highest-quality seafood. It operates a main counter and a 'second counter,' each offering a distinct, yet exceptional, sushi journey.
Customer Perception
Customers consistently praise Sushi Arai for its incredibly fresh fish, particularly the outstanding tuna, and the exceptional skill and precision of the chefs. The dining experience is often described as a 'quiet ceremony,' 'delightful,' and 'unforgettable,' with chefs like Usui and Yuki-san noted for their engaging demeanor. Many highlight the intimate omakase setting and the high quality maintained even at the 'second counter.'
Additional Details
Sushi Arai is located in the Ginza district of Chuo City, specifically at 8 Chome−10−2 ルアンビル 地下1F (B1F), accessible via an elevator from a street corner. There is a distinction between the main counter, presumably run by Chef Arai, and a 'second counter' run by apprentices, both offering a high-quality sushi experience. The price range for a meal typically falls between ¥38,000 and ¥70,500.
The restaurant is open for Lunch at 12 PM and Dinner from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM (last order). Given its exclusivity and high demand, making reservations well in advance is essential.
I give 5 stars for the customer interaction, friendlyness and cleanliness. As for the food, i would give 4 stars. Tried many omakze sushi restaurant before but these not too special for me, it was good but just not perfect. I know i cannot compare to sushi Jiro for the price we paid, but sushi Jiro is one of the best for me, the sushi rice also nicer there. Good expirience though. Paid 40.000yen per person excluding drink.
Finally made it to Sushi Arai! Chef Yuki-san was fantastic, and his sushi was incredibly delicious. A wonderful evening and an unforgettable sushi experience!

In sushi, as in life there are haves and have nots.
At the much anticipated Arai, Karin and I met out match. We submitted willingly. One does not simply eat at Sushi Arai in Tokyo. One submits, gratefully to a quiet ceremony conducted by hands that know more than they say.
Chef Usui stands behind the small intimate counter the way a poet stands behind a podium: without flourish, without apology. We joined a tiny coterie of fellow travelers.
The young chef’s gestures are small but exacting, each one deliberate as a sentence that has been revised until only the necessary words remain. There is passion here, but it is not performative. It does not announce itself. It is, rather, intentional, the way a river is intentional about reaching the sea.
The dinner happened at the very start of Sakura when the pink blossoms are slowly emerging intentionally and determined. So to were we when we tried to find the Ginza restaurant hidden away on a street corner with access only via an elevator.
The was truly delightful. I do not use that word carelessly. Delight is pleasure that catches you off guard, that arrives before you have assembled your defenses against it. The fish was the freshest Karin and I have ever eaten, and I say this as someone who distrusts superlatives the way one distrusts men who smile too easily.
Each piece carried the fragrance of a sea breeze over a spring sky, that particular scent that belongs to no bottler and no perfumer, only to the water and the wind and whatever tender negotiation occurs between them.
Simply delicious, though “simply” is doing rather a lot of work in that phrase, as it so often does. What appears simple has been made so by years of discipline, by choices so refined they have become invisible. This is the trick of mastery: it erases its own evidence.
We left Sushi Arai lighter than we entered, which is not a thing one expects to say after a meal. But Chef Usui does not fill you. He clarifies you.
Thank you, Chef Usui. The body forgets most meals. This one, it will remember.

Most important part, you will not be allow to book the main counter by visiting the 2nd counter, hence no need waste of time if you are trying to do this.
Service and food are good enough from 2nd counter, better than a lot of big names, just not the grand master level of the country. All tuna pieces are outstanding, especially the medium fat tuna. Price is very reasonable for what can be get out of here.

I visited the second shop by the famous Sushi Arai, run by his apprentice, and it fully lived up to my expectations. Chef Usui san delivered a top-notch lunch experience, showcasing exceptional skill and precision. The sushi was of outstanding quality, with the tuna selection being some of the best I’ve ever had. His knife work was impeccable, a true pleasure to watch. Beyond his craftsmanship, Chef Usui san made a genuine effort to engage with all the patrons, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Hopefully, the photo captures the exquisite quality of the sushi.
