We were very lucky to get 老祥記 without having to queue this time, which was a pleasant surprise for such a popular spot.
That said, this round was a little disappointing. The bao skin lacked the usual chewy texture we were expecting, and the filling itself tasted noticeably on the salty side.
Great pork buns. Fresh and hot.
Nothing else sold here - not even some sauce or drinks. No seating either. This is a hole in the wall - but what great buns….
Cash only of course.

The line was quite long when I went at night time about an hour before closing but the queue moved fast. I ordered five pork buns which was reasonably priced for the size. The bun was not too thick and has a nice chewy texture; and the meat filling was soft and juicy but was slightly on the saltier side. Would be nice if it came with some chili oil or vinegar as it feels greasy and heavy after eating several pieces.
Went on a Sunday late morning slightly before lunch time and managed to queue for only 10 mins to get the steamed pork buns. The line was moving smoothly and steadily.
We ate the pork buns fresh while it’s warm and it tasted delicious! The fillings are nicely seasoned and broth from the fillings will flow out on the first bite if you are not careful. However, the bun texture gets chewy once it is cool down so it’s best to eat it while it’s fresh and warm. The only downside is you will have to find a standing spot in the plaza to eat as there aren’t much seating space around.
Tried their famous pork bun. The queueing line is really challenging with the estimation around 1 hour. But its totally worthed. 5 bun costs around 600 yen. The looks may not be that good, but it actually tasted really good, and the pork is tender and juicy.
