Ono Gelato

If an ice cream shop refuses to give samples, it is basically asking you to make a major life decision with limited information. Ono Gelato Co. has a nice selection of gelato and non dairy sorbetto options, so there is something for almost everyone. The flavors looked great and the quality was good, but the no sample policy was surprising. When you are standing in front of multiple tempting flavors, not being able to try any of them feels a little crazy. Pricing is definitely on the tourist side. A small one scoop cup was $6.85, which is not shocking for Whalers Village but still enough to make you pay attention. The shop also sells Maui hats, shirts, and other merchandise, so it is part dessert stop and part souvenir shop. Overall, Ono Gelato Co. serves good gelato and offers dairy free options, which is always appreciated. Just be prepared to commit to a flavor without a test drive and hope your instincts are as good as the gelato looks.

We really enjoyed Ono. The strawberry was amazing. Very fresh and flavorful. We ordered a few sweet treats from different places during our stay, but this ended up being our favorite. One recommendation would be to allow samples. Especially for those with picky eaters, samples can help to not waste money. But otherwise, great visit.

Portions are generous and served simply in a cup, making it easy to enjoy while sitting outside or strolling through the village. I confirmed with the employee to if their sorbetto has nuts and dairy in it. The employee seemed apathetic, but informed us that the sorbetto has no nuts or dairy. After a few tries, my daughter had a reaction You also need to purchase a 15 dollar minimum to get parking validation. Definitely not worth it.

Enjoyed the natural sorbet (dairy free) on a warm afternoon. They had 4 sorbet flavors, and we bought 3... mango, raspberry, and coconut. They all tasted very authentic (not candy, but actually like the fruit), the raspberry even had seeds. Small shop in the middle of the outdoor mall. Service was fast and friendly. Would recommend!
