Mary Mac’s Tea Room feels like stepping into a piece of Atlanta history. The restaurant has that rare old-school Southern atmosphere that immediately feels authentic rather than manufactured for tourists. From the classic decor to the busy dining rooms and long-standing reputation, you can understand very quickly why this place has become such an institution over the years. There was a big queue when I arrived, which usually says a lot, and thankfully it lived up to the reputation. The energy inside is warm, busy, and full of character. It feels like generations of families, locals, and visitors have all passed through the same doors for comfort food and conversation. You really get that sense of tradition the moment you sit down. The portions are also huge. Ordering “the special” gives you an incredible amount of food, and once you add the sides and extras it becomes almost impossible to finish in one sitting. Definitely a place where taking food home is part of the experience rather than a sign you over-ordered. The standout for me was absolutely the fried chicken. If you come here, that is the move. Crispy, flavorful, comforting, and exactly what you want from a classic Southern restaurant. It tasted like the kind of dish the restaurant built its reputation on. Rich without feeling overly greasy and paired perfectly with the traditional sides. Mary Mac’s is not about modern fine dining or trendy presentation. It is about atmosphere, Southern hospitality, history, and generous comfort food done properly. The experience feels very Atlanta and very genuine, which is probably why the queues continue year after year.

Heard so much about this place so it was a must stop on this visit. The food was very tasty. We ordered ñ: fried shrimp for appetizer (came out nice and hot); had chicken tenders with fries and fruit (very filling); also had the beef stew with fried okra and mashed potatoes (large serving that was spread over 2 meals). The potlicker and cornbread was an interesting starter (appreciated the server inquiring about pork and making sure to bring me the option without pork). As though we didn’t have enough food, we had also ordered peach cobbler and cinnamon rolls and we very pleased with both. Our server Beris was super helpful and informative. He made the visit and us feel special. Great hospitality. Definitely worth trying again. Also want to shoutout the server, Trayvon, for his hospitality. Wonderful experience.

If you are visiting Atlanta and are looking for some delicious down home southern cuisine with friendly and attentive wait staff, this is the place for you!! We were visiting here to spend time with family and friends and this was the recommended spot! I am so glad we came here! The food was so delicious and the portions were just right. Our waiter Danny was very attentive and friendly. He answered all our questions and clarified any misconceptions. One way I measure the food for a restaurant is tasting their fries. Mary Mac's fries are fried to perfection and very tender inside! This speaks the same with the rest of their food there. Everyone at my table enjoyed their food and was not disappointed! Mary Mac’s Tea Room is definitely a unique Atlanta dining experience with a classic Southern atmosphere that feels like stepping back in time. It’s known for traditional Southern comfort food like fried chicken, black-eyed peas, cornbread, and even fried green tomatoes. The service was friendly and efficient. My cousin and I ordered the Southern Feast, an all-you-can-eat meal served family-style. Our table quickly filled up with dishes including meatloaf, fried and baked chicken, sweet potato casserole, and it was topped off with a very good peach cobbler. At $28.95 per person, the value seems reasonable since it’s all you can eat, although the initial portions are so large that we could barely finish what was already served and never needed seconds. The reason for three stars instead of five is that while the experience and atmosphere are memorable, the food itself felt a bit less than the very best Southern meals you can find for the price. Still, it’s a fun and classic Atlanta restaurant to try if you want a traditional Southern dining experience.
