La Locanda Gesù Vecchio is situated in the historic heart of Naples and operates across two distinct locations, both sharing a commitment to genuine flavors and quality. It's praised for its cozy, intimate, and welcoming ambiance, offering a contemporary interpretation of traditional Neapolitan cuisine.
Customer Perception
Customers highly praise the outstanding quality of the food, particularly the pizza and pasta, often describing it as the best they've had in Italy. Many highlight the delicious gluten-free options and the great value for money. While the food and atmosphere receive consistent acclaim, some reviews mention inconsistent front-of-house service, particularly regarding reservation handling, which can detract from the overall experience.
Additional Details
The restaurant has two locations in Naples, both dedicated to the same culinary philosophy. It is recognized by the MICHELIN Guide with a Bib Gourmand, signifying good quality and good value cooking.
Reservations are highly recommended, especially for dinner, as the restaurant can get very busy. Visiting early for dinner might allow for last-minute seating without a booking.
We first tried to get a table spontaneously, but apparently reservations are highly recommended.
The menu is a contemporary interpretation of Neapolitan classics. The wine list is impressive. The service is correct and attentive. We enjoyed a lot all the well prepared and generous plates.
This review is late, as our visit was around three months ago on a cold evening, but the experience has stayed with us and hence I just had to post it.
The food was outstanding, and that is the only reason this review is not entirely negative. Unfortunately, the service and front-of-house handling were extremely disappointing.
We had made a reservation for an indoor table, but on arrival we were told that the only available seating was outside in the cold. When we questioned this, we were told we would have to wait at least 30 minutes for an indoor table, despite there being empty tables inside. The staff member dealing with us was dismissive and insisted those tables were reserved for other guests.
We decided to leave and walked down the road, just about 100 metres only to find another branch of the same restaurant on the same road, so we explained to them what had happened. To their credit, the team there were very helpful and immediately called the original restaurant, making it clear that we should be seated indoors. We returned just to prove a point and were given an inside table.
The food was excellent, but the attitude and handling by the front-of-house team really let the restaurant down. A restaurant of this standard should ensure that reservations are honoured properly and that guests are treated with courtesy and the respect they deserve.
They seriously need to train their front-of-house team in customer service, because great food alone is not enough when the service experience is so shabby.

Absolutely incredible pizza! The crust was perfectly light and airy with that authentic Neapolitan texture, and the ingredients tasted so fresh and full of flavour. The tomato sauce, mozzarella, and toppings were beautifully balanced, making every bite delicious. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and attentive. One of the best pizzas I’ve had in Italy and definitely a place I would recommend to anyone visiting Naples. Can’t wait to come back!

So so good! Great! This was our best meal to date! We didn’t have a booking but came just early enough that us and a few other groups were squeezed in last minute. These guys make pasta seem luxurious with great sauces and al dente perfection. I tried a delicious new amaro called Jefferson as well. If only this was my local, it was well worth the wait and great value for money!

This was THE BEST pasta I had in Italy. Full stop. This place is a must-try. Even though it wasn’t the first food we ate in Italy, this was THE first bite of Italy. The most shockingly delicious bite of perfection and culinary glory. Yes, this is the Italian pasta dreams are made of.
We got the rigatoni al ragu con ricotta. I especially recommend this dish if you like red sauce and meat sauce pastas.
This classic pasta dish is thick, al dente rigatoni pasta covered in a divine tomato and meat sauce with both beef and pork. It’s topped with a huge chunk of the most tender, flavorful pork that breaks apart with just your fork.
It also has an absolutely dreamy combination of onion, basil, grana padano parmesan cheese, olive oil, and ricotta cheese (this not-so-secret ingredient is a staple ingredient of Neapolitan cuisine, and boy does it add a perfectly creamy touch to this pasta dish—and to the absolutely incredible pastry I’m in LOVE with: sfogliatelle).
Very affordable: lunch for two came out to 33.50 euros, including the mandatory coperto.
When I go back to Naples, this will be my first stop!
