We had visited HomeChef once before and really liked the food from their regular menu. However, our experience at their Mexican fest yesterday was completely different.
We ordered the chicken enchilada, chicken soft tacos, and guacamole with chips. The soft chicken tacos were poorly executed—drenched in heavy, overpowering sauces that masked all other flavors. There seemed to be an odd mix of something like ketchup along with a thick, creamy sauce, topped with a bit of shredded cabbage. The chicken itself was overly saucy, making the tacos soggy and messy instead of fresh and flavorful.
The enchiladas had a very similar filling and suffered from the same problem—too much sauce, no balance, and no distinct or authentic taste.
When you order Mexican food, you expect fresh elements like salsa, jalapeños, onions, and a good balance of textures and seasoning. Unfortunately, none of that came through here, making the dishes feel inauthentic and poorly put together.
To make matters worse, both of us ended up with an upset stomach. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience - not worth it at all.
Although the enchilada was removed from the bill after we shared our feedback, the overall experience is what stays with you.
