Khao Moo Dang

Tried a mix of dishes here and had a pretty balanced experience overall. Khao Moo-Dang was interesting. The sauce covered most of the dish, which made it feel a bit heavy, though the flavor itself was actually light and paired well with everything. The Chinese sausage was solid, and the crispy pork belly was good, just could’ve used a bit more of it. Ba Mhee Tom Kha was a standout. The broth was rich and flavorful, with a good amount of meat and noodles. If you’ve had Mama noodles before, it has a similar comforting taste. Definitely something I’d order again. The steamed dumplings worked well as a shared plate. They were good, but could’ve used a little more filling. The sauce on its own was a bit underwhelming, but adding soy sauce and chili oil helped bring it together. For drinks, the lychee hibiscus juice was refreshing and felt worth the price - light, fresh, and easy to drink. The Thai iced tea also hit the mark, with a good balance of flavor and portion size. Space itself was clean with both indoor and outdoor seating available. Ambience indoor is causal. Food came out quickly, and while the menu has pictures, the dishes don’t particularly look the same. It’s a bus-your-own-table setup, but overall the experience felt efficient and straightforward.

The service at Khao Moo Dang was attentive, friendly, and very fast. The ambiance is casual and welcoming, with a cute outdoor seating area — I especially enjoyed sitting outside. The food was steaming hot and full of flavor. The broth was different from what I’m used to, but absolutely delicious and very rich in taste. The noodles were the best I had during my whole trip in Oregon, and the dumplings were incredible. I even got a plate to go with a regular broth (not the creamy one), and it was just as flavorful. Highly recommend this spot if you’re in Portland! I ordered 12. BA-MHEE TOM-KHA and steamed dumplings & #20 to go for dinner:)

I’ll start off by saying I’m generally not a big noodle soup fan except for Pho and a quality ramen. My wife loved her #10 with bone broth, two dumplings stuffed with pork, yu choy, egg and delicious 12-hour braised pork shoulder. I preferred her meal to mine as the pork shoulder was excellent- perfectly seasoned (5 spice?) and so tender. But it is quite a salty/oily broth. I got the #12 tom kha broth with sliced pork tenderloin (??!), pork belly, egg and yu choy (my favorite part = green thin vegetable soaked in the coconut broth). It was way too salty and I like me some salt. I couldn’t eat more than a 1/3 of the broth and didn’t really care for the hard to chew pork tenderloin- which seemed more like Chinese red pork char siu. The pork belly had a nice crispy top which was a good texture compared to the overly soft egg noodles which were falling apart, unfortunately. I can see that plenty of folks would like this place but… Friendly staff.

Best broth I’ve ever had in my life. Thai tea delicious too. I was dreading a long wait time… but! They were so fast that we could barely fill our water cups and sit down before our food was out. Then they notified us a table inside was available so we moved (: way beyond the extra mile! It’s always packed but there are seats outside under a heated covered area. I got curry soup btw
