My experience at Fiola Mare was nothing short of incredible, in both food and hospitality, and I am so very glad I chose it on my first trip to Washington DC.
I started off with the yellowfin tuna crudo, which was refreshing, well presented, and had layers of both texture and flavor.
Then per my servers recommendation, I had the branzino, which I do believe may be the best piece of fish I've had within recent memory. Crispy skin, yet remaining tender and delicious. It was wonderful in its simplicity, letting the flavor of the fish play center role.
For a side, I had the olive oil crushed potatoes. I don't believe I've had potatoes made with olive oil before, but it certainly won't be the last time.
Nicole, my server went above and beyond in their service, even sending me an additional side, the pesto ravioli which was an excellent compliment to the other flavors present. We also spoke of our shared love of the ocean.
Again per Nicoles recommendation I went with the strawberry shortcake for dessert. Please look at the attached picture because that most straightforwardly shows how delightful it was.
Fred, the manager, even came over to say Hello, and we discussed his time in New Hampshire (as I am from the New England Area).
Overall, this meal was a perfect way to punctuate my 30th birthday trip to Washington DC, I was well cared for in both heart and stomach, which I think is all you can ask for from a restaurant experience. As a solo diner especially. I will be back on my next visit to DC.
