Came on pride weekend. Standing room only but they graciously allowed us to stand at the counter and enjoy thier amazing wine and even more amazing food. Service was so friendly and the vibes of the whole place are fun and laid back. The bar itself feels like a fun place to hang but the food blew my expectations away. Well balanced fusion Vietnamese food that feels distinctly viet American. I will be back to try everything I can and soon.
Had a few bottles at fat cat that were great but the food at The Mantis blew us away. My group ordered every dish on the menu and there was not a single miss. Amazing flavors. Variety of style of dishes. Ribs, steak frites, eggplant, and croquettes were some favorites but literally nothing was bad. Even the bread and butter starter was amazing.

Fat Cat & The Mantis strikes a rare balance between neighborhood wine bar charm and elevated dining. The space is warm, intimate, and inviting with a distinctly modern San Francisco sensibility—refined without feeling stuffy or overly formal.
The cuisine is beautifully executed, and full of flavor. Every dish feels intentional, balancing traditional Vietnamese influences with creative, contemporary execution. The wine list is thoughtfully curated with an emphasis on local producers, making it easy to discover something new.
A great addition to the neighborhood; equally suited to a casual glass of wine after work or a special night out. I promise AI did not write this lol.

12/10, this place is PHENOMENAL!!! So glad they exist.
Fat Cat, the wine bar, is PERFECT vibes. Very very welcoming, great wine, accessible explanations and intros to the wine. Great selection for take home, but also really fun wines to drink. Staff is so fun, the bar is fun to sit at and chat around, and the service was attentive but not overwhelming. They were doing a wine tasting class when we arrived which also looked fun: Something for another day!
The Mantis, the Viet fusion dinner service, is AMAZING! Incredible incredible food. I already want to come back to try everything else on the menu. It's casual style: Plastic street food utensil holders, simple printed menu, friendly service. But then the food is upscale without being pretentious and FULL OF FLAVOR!!!! The fried eggplant was my favorite, with the shiso butterbean tofu (it was wow!) but nothing was a miss. The whipped ricotta with Viet flavors: fab. The ribs were my other favorite: Really fun and interesting flavor combinations that really did accomplish cultural food flavor fusion, but were also just REALLY TASTY. We were too full for dessert, but the diner next to us got some and it looked amazing as well. Basically, no misses, all flavor, quick service, very fair prices for the quality and style of food.
Beyond everything already being perfect, the decor was IMPECCABLE. From the fat cats everywhere to the vintage burlesque, to the Asian inspirations everywhere and all of the very fun Vietnamese style decor. The lighting was so fun: Natural in the front, but neon street food vibe lighting in the back. I love the central bar and I love the super super cute booths and just overall I adore this place, highly highly recommend, and cannot wait to be back.
