Zavala’S Barbecue

I went for dinner and it didn’t disappoint. The brisket has a pepper smoke flavor it is smoked perfectly. Small place not much seating on the inside but they have picnic tables outside. Nice place that I would recommend if you are in the area.

I love Texas BBQ, so I wasn't sure what to expect here. I got the brisket with the beans. There are not a lot of food options and no iced tea, but what they had was great. I easily could the brisket with a plastic fork, that's how tender it was. The atmosphere was definitely lacking. It would've been nice to have metal silverware and the area to sit was tiny.

I went to grab lunch at Zavala's on Saturday the 4th of July. I have been meaning to dine here for some time. The restaurant has little street side parking but a bigger lot adjacent so no parking issues. The day was warm and I see a large cooler full of cold Lone Star, The National Beer of Texas and that was for folks waiting in line outside. No charge for the beer while you are in line. Nice! It's a very small dining area inside but larger patio dining is outside. The brisket had terrific flavor, it had a great peppery bark on the outside and the interior was most and smoky. I also tried the pork ribs which hit the mark as well. I liked the slightly sweet rub on them and the meat was well cooked. Very tender but not fall off the bone. This was a plus for me. The sides included Pops beans (traditional pinto) which for a Mexican like me is a must order. I love beans and these were fantastic. The warm potato salad was the most unique side as it was a mayo based salad with medium chunks of tender potato and a generous garnish of chips green onions in top. I don't know what else is in there but I was impressed in this particular recipe. It was like a comforting hug from a friend. It may not be the same as a mustard based potato salad but I definitely think it has to be one of the best sides I've had anywhere. The service was excellent and I enjoyed talking and interacting with the staff. They seem genuinely happy and appreciative of their work and it shows in their interacting with customers. I ran into George Strait and Selena on my way out! 5 stars from me.

Food and atmosphere were excellent. I had the pizza spice sausage, which had a nice course grind and a peppery punch to it. The moist brisket was flavorful and tasty with the provided green salsa. First time for me eating salsa and brisket, but the green salsa was a great pairing. I ordered the coleslaw after seeing it on someone else’s plate and it was a very tasty shredded style coleslaw that wasn’t sweet. This might be my new favorite place on this side of the metroplex. The walk up to the menu was a little confusing, multiple pieces of butcher paper with writing were overhead, but the staff were quick to assist me an answer questions so I was well taken care of. Inside seating was limited, but I was happy to be outside on the covered patio enjoying the day.
