Additional Details
Violetto is located in downtown St. Helena, California, right off Main Street, in the heart of Napa Valley's Wine Country. It offers both a four-course and an eight-course tasting menu, as well as an à la carte menu of shareable plates, complemented by handcrafted cocktails and a curated wine selection.
NOTE: I'm not an influencer- I took time on this review because I was so impressed! My recent solo dining experience at Violetto was enlivening; the menu, a harbinger of spring. As I settled into a table with much gusto, the restaurant manager engaged me in warm conversation, as if we were part of a big Italian family. The dining room- set inside a preserved historic estate- that locals have dubbed "the jewel-box,” is intimate, pastel-toned, and California-cool. Violetto’s hidden gem status became clear the moment the amuse bouche arrived: house-made vermouth infused with kitchen garden botanicals, a goat cheese tartlet, and a brioche cracker with truffles. A lovely white Burgundy followed from Maison Verget, poured by the exceptionally well-versed sommelier.
The four-course tasting menu with wine pairing was Michelin-level, and I say this rooted in extensive fine dining experience- including a two-star meal in San Francisco earlier this same trip. Violetto lives up to these standards. I loved the spring risotto brightened by a vivid green salmoriglio sauce and garlanded with the tiniest vegetables. The Dungeness crab scarpinocc was exactly al dente, luxuriously draped in a fermented corno di pepper sauce. The Liberty Farms duck was equally extraordinary: dry-aged, cooked with utmost precision, and accompanied by a decadent pear mostarda, fermented and roasted red kuri squash nappé with a sauce robert.
Executive Chef Mark Shoemaker visited the table, speaking with verve and unrehearsed thoughtfulness about his upcoming spring menu, local partnered farms, and dining recommendations- a truly generous and impressive introduction. He served the final dessert course: a refreshing farewell to winter and citrus season, offering a textural play of citrus, panna cotta, and white chocolate–coated candies that burst into a zingy cara cara gel with a fizzy mouthfeel. I will return to dine in every season- and to take inspiration from their work in the kitchen garden.
The chef arrange amazing dishes, not too much mixed in too many ingredient but elaborated and sophisitcated. The tuna appetizer is spectacular and melt in your month, the cheese selection with just a little layer of honey and the local organic goat cheese, the duck everything was sublime. Amazing wine selection also by glass. A mix of tasting with European influence , very light and spices used with proper accuracy .Definetivelly deserve a star it is a waste not to stop here
One of the better tasting menus I’ve had in Napa/ St Helena. We came here for our anniversary and the attentive service/ dishes did not disappoint. Will be back again in the future. Also there is Tesla charging on the property premises.
Violetto is definitely gunning for the ultimate Californian cuisine, in the heart of Napa Valley, with wonderful weather, vineyards all around, in a sleek modern interior, and of course Heath ceramics plates. This set up has become quite common, especially in the high-end hotels in Napa, and somewhat is playing it safe.
My disappoitment was with the breakfast though. At this price point, you absolutely want a tasty, high-class breakfast and yet what you end up is perhaps a standard average meal with average presentation.
The eggs sunnyside up came in too crisp at the edge. The sausage was tasty but a bit bland. Potatoes were nice. And most of all, the butter with the sour dough was unsalted. The French press coffee was too strong and bitter. It just wasn't a delightful breakfast, expected at a premier Californian restaurant at a 5-star hotel.
Perhaps lunch or dinner could be better. And yes, I did have dinner here but as a group meal so I do not judge based on that. However, seeing the quality of the breakfast, I'm not too hopeful.
Bear at Stanly Ranch comes close to Violetto from a set up perspective, but of course a much larger institution. And they truly nail the food including breakfast. So for now, giving it 3-stars.
Fabulous and surprisingly healthy and decadent housemade pasta served in Michelin level service. Noticed several romantic couples as well as what looked like fun birthday dinner. I was there for a girls catchup and it was a great spot to relax after a long day. Service was not rushed or pompous. Definitely going back.
