Absolutely Worth the Drive - A True Culinary Experience
We drove nearly two hours from Greenwich to Mystic specifically to return to The Shipwright’s Daughter, and it was 100% worth the trip.
This was our second time dining here, and somehow the experience was just as memorable as the first. With James Beard Award-winning - Chef David Standridge leading the kitchen, expectations were high, and they did not disappoint.
One of the things that makes this restaurant so special is that the menu changes daily based on what’s fresh, seasonal, and locally available. They take locally sourced ingredients and transform them into something truly magical. Every dish is thoughtful, creative, and connected to New England.
The service was excellent, the food was outstanding, and the entire experience reminded us why we made the drive back for a second visit.
And then there’s Mystic itself, a beautiful coastal town that makes the whole trip even more special.
The Shipwright’s Daughter isn’t just somewhere you go for dinner, it’s a restaurant worth making the trip for. We’ll absolutely be back.
This was such an amazing find on our recent trip to Mystic. It’s in a great location and an easy walk if you’re spending the day exploring the town. Their happy hour is a must, but it’s popular, so either make a reservation or get there early if you’re hoping to grab a seat at the bar. We started with a few oysters, which were fresh, delicious, and nicely briny, just as you’d hope for in a New England coastal town. The other appetizers were just as impressive, especially the monkfish mortadella and the sea-scargot. For mains, we had the tuna and the local squid. Both were creative, beautifully prepared, and packed with flavor. Overall, the perfect way to end a day in Mystic. I’ll definitely be back.

My husband and I got the tasting menu for our anniversary dinner and we were blown away!
The whole meal was absolutely delicious. We're not usually fans of oysters, but the way the oysters were dressed in the first course was so good. The ginger was a great touch. We didn't even realize scallops could be so big when we got the third course. Even something as simple as a slice of squash in the fourth course tasted absolutely incredible the way that they prepared it. We especially loved that the meat course was duck, we love duck and appreciated that it was different than the usual steak. The pavlova for dessert was the cherry on top. I can't imagine how difficult it is to create that dish on that level so consistently to have it on a tasting menu, and the seasonal flavors really elevated it.
My husband got the wine pairing, which he loved. We can't wait to get the wine list from our meal so we can try hunting down some of the bottles ourselves in our local liquor stores.
And the service was amazing! Everyone was so kind, welcoming, and you could tell by the way they spoke that they truly cared about what they were serving. I highly recommend coming here for any special occasion, or if you just feel like having delicious food!

Had the tasting menu with my husband. I booked on open table at the $130 price and when we were seated we were informed the price had increased to $150. We only had these reservations for a couple weeks so it isn't like we booked months in advance. The food holds up for the most part, but the strip steak was tough and while I understand buying local ingredients costs more if I'm paying more I would have expected a ribeye or filet or the strip to have been handled with more care by sous vide or a reverse sear. Mixed feelings about the meal overall.

I drove to Mystic after visiting some family friends in Madison just to have an opportunity to experience this restaurant. And this place lived up to every expectation. Unfortunately I was not able to choose the dinner menu as I was only visiting a few hours on Saturday morning. However the Brunch menu is phenomenal! The roasted oysters are a perfect combination of flavor and presentation that I wanted more than 4 of them. Our server Kait was very attentive and kept a close eye on our meal. I experienced the best golden latte served with tumeric to begin our meal. I ordered the Duck Benedict as my entree with chicken fat fries. Taste and presentation were simply out of this world!! Well deserved reputation and well earned notoriety for this James Beard award winner! I wish I did not live so far away where I could come back to experience the dinner menu!
