We visited The Elephant Restaurant on the final evening of our holiday in Devon to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary. As we had our three-year-old daughter with us, she joined us for the experience too—and loved every mouthful she could get her hands on. Kids are the toughest critics, after all.
From the moment we arrived, the staff were exceptional: welcoming, attentive, and incredibly accommodating, even though we looked like we'd spent the whole day at the zoo in the Devon sunshine.
We chose the Dinner Tasting Menu, and it was easy to see why Mr. Hulstone retains his Michelin Star year after year. Every course was beautifully presented, perfectly balanced, and absolutely delicious. It was an exceptional dining experience from start to finish.
I often ask whether restaurants offer a military discount, but on this occasion it genuinely didn't feel right to ask. The experience was worth every penny.
I couldn't recommend The Elephant Restaurant more highly. If you're looking for a truly special meal in Devon, this is the place to go.
Exceptional food, exceptional service. Highly recommended. We had an assortment of starters; Guinea fowl, crab, sea bass - all delicious. Most of us had the halibut - which was dreamy!! Dessert was also very good.

Jill and I chose The Elephant for lunch to celebrate our 37th wedding anniversary and we’re very glad we did.
From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome. The staff were friendly, attentive and struck just the right balance throughout our visit.
The food was excellent from start to finish. Every course was beautifully presented and full of flavour, but for me the standout was the Pedro Ximénez chocolate dessert. It was absolutely delicious and I could quite happily have licked the bowl clean afterwards (but I didn’t!).
We finished with coffee and left feeling that we had enjoyed a genuinely special meal. It was a wonderful way to celebrate our anniversary.
Many thanks to Simon Hulstone and the team for making the occasion so memorable. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would not hesitate to return.

Consistently stunning food, great service and nice environment. What's not to like.
(Do be careful not park roadside. This is a no parking zone, there are no road markings and the restrictions sign is very difficult to spot, especially in the dark)
Additional: Looking through other reviews, I notice some refer to a slight deficiency in service. Our most recent experience was excellent. Staff were welcoming and very relaxed, friendly without undue informality, well informed about the dishes, a credit to the restaurant and certainly enhanced our experience.

I liked it here. The room is bright and airy, being nicely furnished and decorated. The staff are both pleasant and efficient. I thought the food had some unusual combinations. These were skillfully combined to provide a super tasty meal. After all you go to a high end restaurant to experience something different and The Elephant delivered for me. I had a most enjoyable lunch with a relaxed vibe. I also think it's really good value for money.
