🚇 Tottenham Court Road 🍺 £4.90 Carlsberg This pub is located on Berwick Street in the heart of Soho. The nearest Tube station is Tottenham Court Road. A pub has stood on this site since at least 1739. The pub you see today, built in a neo-Georgian style and dates from a complete rebuild in 1914. On the side of the pub, there is a green plaque commemorating Jessie Matthews who was born on Berwick Street in 1907. The pub was destroyed by a brontosaurus in the 1925 animated film The Lost World—apparently, the animators used to drink here. In more recent times, the pub was featured in an episode of Peppa Pig. This is a traditionally decorated oldschool pub that retains all the hallmarks of a proper London boozer. The servery is horseshoe shaped and is centrally located. The decor consists of white anaglypta wallpaper with a brown tiled border below, leather and velour banquette seating with matching stools, an original fireplace with mirror above, photos of Jessie Matthews and historical London scenes, commemorative plates of Queen Elizabeth and a proper pub carpet. Upstairs there is a function room which hosts comedy and live music. The beer line-up includes a selection of well-known brands, some independent brews, and two cask ales. I opted for a Carlsberg—my pint was excellent and cost less than a fiver. This is a wet-led pub, so no food is served. I arrived at 4 p.m. on a sunny Friday afternoon in May. There were a dozen or so punters inside, where it was chilled and relaxed, but the majority were standing outside, enjoying the weather and the humdrum of central Soho. The service was superb—the team on duty were friendly, personable, and made you feel right at home. Wow, what an absolutely outstanding pub this is. Soho has changed so much over the last 25 years and feels like a more sanitised place, but here they’re holding on to everything that was great about Soho—and they’re not changing any time soon. What a pub should be! It’s not some generic, newly refurbished gastroshite pub with no soul. This is an old school boozer, it oozes with character! Welcoming, no portentousness, a little rough round the edges, great atmosphere, good value, great service, sticky floors, friendly locals at the bar, and some smoking hot bar staff. What more could you want….. Live music or standup? Well it’s got that too. 10/10.

Great Soho boozer, excellent atmosphere, classic pub carpet and a ceiling painted brown to soak up 100 years of fag smoke, you assume. Nice mix of people in there and some great 80s tunes. Bar staff could be more cheerful.

The Blue Posts is basically and old man's pub transported into the heart of London's nightlife. As such it's something of a legend in Soho and while this was my first visit.
