A DC classic that is just as wonderful as I remembered.
I lived in the Washington, D.C. area years ago and used to dine at Rasika often. It had been quite a while since my last visit, and I’m happy to say it was every bit as good as I remembered.
I visited with my two daughters, ages 8 and 22, after a long day of sightseeing in nearly 100-degree weather. We were dressed for the extreme heat outside and, understandably, didn’t want to carry sweaters or jackets around all day. Our original table was directly beneath an air conditioning vent, and the staff graciously accommodated our request to move to a warmer table. When my 8-year-old was still chilly in the 67–68° dining room, our waiter thoughtfully brought over a tablecloth for her to drape over her shoulders. It was such a kind gesture and an example of truly exceptional hospitality.
The food was outstanding. The appetizers were fantastic, and my youngest especially enjoyed the mango lassi and a butter paneer dish that served as a kid-friendly alternative to butter chicken. My oldest daughter and I shared several appetizers along with a shrimp entrée, and everything was beautifully prepared and full of flavor.
Rasika continues to excel in every way—wonderful food, attentive service, and a beautiful atmosphere. It’s easy to see why it has remained one of Washington’s premier restaurants for so many years. We had a fantastic evening, and I look forward to returning the next time I’m in D.C. Keep up the great work!
Great place to go with 2-3 friends and share food! I’ll start off by saying the Mango Lassi is the perfect amount of sweetness. The Palak Chaat, Mango Shrimp and Sweet Potato Samosa were all delicious – although the samosa was slightly on the saltier side. Definitely recommend getting the Palak Chaat for an appetizer! For entrees, we ordered the Chicken Makhani and Chicken Tikka and they were delicious. Both entrees were very savory and not sweet at all (a personal preference for Indian food) and paired wonderfully with the Garlic Naan.
The restaurant had a really nice vibe. The decor was simple yet elegant, and it created a great atmosphere to talk and enjoy each other’s company.
The food was good, but not amazing. I’ve definitely had better Indian food, so I didn’t feel like the flavors fully justified the price.
The staff was professional, but there wasn’t anything particularly standout about the service.
We visited Rasika in Washington, DC, with very high expectations based on its Michelin recognition and excellent reputation. While the food had some highlights, our overall experience was disappointing, mainly due to the service.
We ordered a masala chai and asked our server for recommendations. Unfortunately, the chai was not enjoyable—it tasted like hot water with a little milk and a hint of spice. After reading other reviews later, we realized several guests had shared a similar opinion.
We were also interested in trying the tasting menu and asked our server about it, as the menu did not mention the price. Based on the information provided, we decided to order it.
After the first three courses—the sweet potato samosa chaat, palak chaat, and paneer tikka—we were completely full. We explained this to our server and politely asked if it would be possible to stop there and pay only for the courses that had already been served, or if there was any other solution. Unfortunately, our request was declined, and the remaining dishes were packed for takeaway. We ended up with a bill of over $180.
We understand that the kitchen may have already started preparing the remaining courses. However, a little flexibility or guidance from our server could have made a significant difference. Since we had onward travel plans, we simply could not consume or carry so much food, resulting in unnecessary food waste as well as an expensive meal that we were unable to fully enjoy.
We had visited Rasika expecting not only exceptional food but also warm hospitality and attentive service. A more proactive approach from our server—whether by explaining the tasting menu more clearly beforehand, checking our comfort level during the meal, or suggesting an alternative billing option—would have made this experience much more positive.
Rasika is truly one of the best Indian restaurants in Washington, D.C. The food is outstanding, authentic yet beautifully presented, and every dish has a perfect balance of flavors. The ambience is elegant, the service is warm and professional, and the overall experience feels very special.
A special thanks to the staff for accommodating me as a walk-in, even though the restaurant usually works with prior reservations. Their hospitality and flexibility made the experience even better.
Their vegetarian options are excellent, and the famous palak chaat is a must-try. It is rare to find an Indian restaurant that combines taste, presentation, hospitality, and consistency so well. Rasika is definitely one of the finest Indian dining experiences in D.C.
