I am not sure what to say about POPPY. It is in a popular location with a lot of foot traffic and other restaurants. They seem to fill up their patio well. And yes, it is a happening place. A lot of bustling, 100s of conversations around you, and yes, you feel alive being part of Paris.
But practically everything is mediocre from the food to the service. And this makes me believe that Parisians are really generous rating restaurants in Paris. There is no way POPPY is a 4.5 star in the US.
Food is just food. Not memorable. No distinct taste. It's just food you can chew on with beer or wine. Oh, and the duck confit was a disaster. I don't like confits too much as pulled meat can be very "dusty" and dry. Well this one beat my descriptions by being literally shreds of supposedly duck.
Don't bother with POPPY unless you want to sit amongst a bunch of smoking couples having random conversation with a beer or two.
