Okay food, not great service.
Service: SLOW above all else. Our waitress rarely checked on us the 2 hours we were there. Luckily we were able to flag down some other employees while they were running around. Additionally, the QR code on our receipt took us to a different receipt, so we ended up paying someone else’s check, and then they wouldn’t let us leave because our check was unpaid (which is how we realized the QR link was broken). We were trying to be home by a certain time, so the hold up to flag down our waitress for the check, void our payments, pay our actual check, and leave was inconvenient to say the least. Also, I had the reservation made for 6:30 but when my friend came to meet me at the table, the hostess stopped her and gave her attitude, saying she wasn’t allowed to. It was very strange. I’ve never been to a restaurant that didn’t let you meet your friends who are already seated at your table you reserved.
Atmosphere: Crowded, loud, but somewhat stylish. Downstairs is dark and almost a chic-tavern-cocktail vibe. The rooftop is much more laid back, but the only shade is in the happy hour bar area, so prepare to bake in the sun if you’ve got a rooftop reservation. I would recommend bringing sunglasses and a hat. Just something to be aware of!
Food: The sushi was decent, but you can get on par or better sushi other places in DC. Honestly, it was not a standout for Japanese food, especially in DC.
Good to know: They charge a 20% service fee (that goes to the staff) on every bill, but it is not the tip. You still need to tip.
Overall, would’ve been an okay experience if the service hadn’t been the poor experience that it was. Not sure I’d come back again when there are so many other great Japanese and rooftop restaurants in DC.
