Visited Matilda’s Bakery today and arrived around 7:45 AM, with about 10 people already in line. By 8 AM, the line was wrapped around the building, which is pretty wild! The building itself is beautiful, with a clean, minimal aesthetic, and the pastry selection looked incredible.
I ordered the ham and cheese croissant, chocolate chip cookie, and passionfruit Danish. I was debating between the croissant and sausage roll, and the person bagging my order recommended the croissant because it had more flavor. She wasn’t wrong! It was delicious and packed with flavor, although noticeably oily from all the butter.
I also ordered a single shot of espresso, which was decent but nothing special. I was surprised to see the barista only place my cup under one spout while the other shot went straight down the drain. As a coffee lover, that seemed unnecessarily wasteful, especially for a new business.
Overall, a pretty solid first visit! The pastries are clearly the main attraction. I’d definitely return and give the coffee another shot, perhaps as an iced latte next time.
