We came here for lunch and had an outstanding meal. The lunch room — the one made of glass with views out on the garden — is charming and relaxed, not stuffy the way many of these set menus can feel. It progressed at a nice pace and featured a wide variety of really special flavors. The portions were small the whole way through, so while I appreciated not feeling too full at the end, I actually could have eaten a bit more!
The one disappointment was that they forgot to celebrate my birthday — the whole point of the trip. My husband had told them before, and they simply forgot, which I suppose happens, but it was just us and one other couple eating in the restaurant, so it was kinda lame, frankly.
It’s also important to note that it’s right off the main road, not tucked away in some remote village. If you’ve watched the Chef’s Table episode, you might have the impression that I did that it’s a secluded spot, frozen in time, hard to access, etc. That’s not the case. This didn’t detract from my enjoyment, necessarily, but it wasn’t how I envisioned it.
We also spent one night on the property, and it’s definitely bare bones, so keep expectations low. It was great for our purposes, but if you’re imagining an accommodation on par with the meal, you’ll be unpleasantly surprised.
