Hannaford

Our stay was very pleasant. The shared rooms were great, and so were the bathrooms, everything was very clean, and the staff were very friendly. The building itself is really beautiful. The location is excellent too, right in a great spot to explore the city. One downside was that the website mentioned air conditioning, but it turned out to be broken. Luckily, when we visited (August) it wasn't really needed, it cools down at night, and just opening the window was enough to let in a fresh breeze. The other downside was quite a bit of noise from outside, I'm not exactly sure what it was, but something in the hotel was making a lot of noise (I attached a video I took at 4am in the hallway). You couldn't hear it from the room with the window closed, but you could with it open. Either way, I slept really well.

From the cobblestoned streets to the palatial entry/building, i felt as if i were in a castle waiting for d'Artignan to arrive! My room looked and felt more like a 4*hotel rather than a hostel. The comfy bunk beds and matching wooden closets were spacious, the reading light was more than adequate. There was a sofa, a few books available for reading, a decorative fireplace and 3-meter high windows which gave the room a light, airy feeling. The bathroom and corridor appeared to be recently refurbished. The premises were spic and span, including the tastefully decorated cafe.

I had a really lovely stay here. The beds were spacious and comfortable with lockers and extra storage space underneath the beds. I had the top bunk and really appreciated that the ladder was wide and easy to climb! The bedding was nice and there was plenty of space near the head of the bed to keep my things. I also really liked the overall design of the hostel! It has a great atmosphere and is amazing value for money. The breakfast was nice, the location is perfect right in the city centre and they serve barista coffee! The staff were friendly and welcoming. The only downside was that I was placed in a room with four older guests. I had hoped to meet new people, but that was a bit difficult in that situation (though that might have more to do with La Rochelle than the hostel itself). Still, it’s one of the cleanest and most beautiful hostels I stayed at in France!

The staff at the hotel is very welcoming and accommodating. We enjoyed a great stay in La Rochelle.
