We arrived at our reservation time and were seated right away. The decor was really fun and lively. You could tell that they were setting up for more of a spanish night club atmosphere later after we left. The tacos and cocktails were really delicious. If we didn't have another place to run to after eating, we would have stayed for the dancing! Altogether great spot in River North! Be sure to hit the photo booth on your way out!
I visited Ghost Donkey for the first time and had a really enjoyable experience overall. From the moment we sat down, our waitress Uvia was outstanding — attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. She checked in just the right amount and made the experience feel welcoming without being overbearing.
The drinks were excellent — definitely not watered down. You could taste the quality, and they were well balanced and worth every sip. I had two drinks, and the pricing felt fair for the quality and location.
For starters, had the steak tacos (a bit salty), but were a solid choice. Chips and salsa was great.
The atmosphere really stood out — nice décor, great music, and a lively but comfortable vibe that works for both casual outings and social nights. Parking was also easy, with a convenient parking garage nearby, which is always a plus in the city.
Overall, Ghost Donkey offers strong drinks, decent starter food options, and great service in a fun setting. Just a small notch away from five stars, but definitely a place I’d return to and recommend.
Note: they are a bit hard to find. They’re located above the sushi restaurant right on the corner. There’s a door that you can easily miss.

Very fun bar around downtown Chicago. The drinks were good on happy hour. Chips and guac were great. I went on a Thursday night, and they were playing bachata and cumbia and thennnn they started playing loteria. Super fun! And everyone was very nice.

Ghost donkey is a gem, hidden in an unassuming 2nd floor corner spot. After having your ID checked outside by one of the nicest/ funniest security guards, you open a door to be hit with upbeat Latin Music that seems to make your body dance involuntarily, even if you don’t know the songs, The space is warm, enticing, welcoming with an array of table & seating options as well as a double-sided central bar. It doesn’t have tv, generally- World Cup being the exception, which only enhances the experience. No distractions, just great vibes, great food and great drinks with your friends/ family.
It is perfect for happy hours with some of the best pricing in River North, for not just for the hours of their happy hour but quality of food and drinks.
Birthdays and celebrations here, really make someone feel special.
I recommend this place to anyone visiting Chicago, or working downtown or in the area.
PS - they have awesome bubble guns and the manager, she is so fun having the orb bar lights get thrown to swing back and forth.
200/10 would recommend!

Music and service were really great! The workers came regularly to check-in, and they came with BUBBLES!! and shots to celebrate a birthday in my group. I made a reservation just to ensure seating for the birthday celebration, but there are so many seats that walk-ins would be fine.
The entire place is decorated with really pretty lights, and it was just a nice atmosphere. I would say that the drinks/shots were a miss though🥴. On the other hand, the tacos were delicious!!!
