Had a great evening! The Korean fusion menu is really creative and everything we tried was delicious. Standouts for me were the kimchi fritters and Joo’s fried chicken - both were exceptional.
We also had the chalk stream trout, mixed mushroom bap, BBQ onglet, seasonal vegetable melon salad, and finished with baked Alaska and a matcha strawberry roll cake. Overall, the food quality and creativity were excellent.
On a warm day, the windows open fully and it almost feels like you’re sitting outside. There are also some really interesting non-alcoholic drink options, which I appreciated. The only downside was that we were asked to leave just as we finished. We had ordered six dishes plus dessert, so it felt a bit rushed at the end.
Overall, a great spot and I would definitely go back.
Loved every dish, small menu with each dish packing a punch. My favourite dishes were the kimchi fritters, the trout ceviche and fried chicken. Fantastic value at £50 a head. Brilliant service, lovely restaurant.
Usually when a place is hyped online it’s almost bound to be disappointing. This why Calong was such a great surprise. Small and dinning hall with great atmosphere and a very casual vibe. Attentive service without being overbearing with great attention to detail. The highlight of the evening was the food. Refreshingly new twists on classics with the sauces being the star of each dish they accompanied. From the dishes we’ve sampled the pork was our favourite with the fried chicken as close second.
Definitely worth a visit, I’m already planning my second!
I had certain expectations before going to Calong but the meal went above and beyond. The chicken and the fish dishes were my favourites. Really authentic Korean flavours but with more care and attention. The pollock filet was cooked perfectly, flaky and moist with a crisp skin. The chicken thighs were crunchy on the outside but juicy on the inside. The small components like the lime zest on the fritters really pop.
Service was friendly and helpful for both the food and wine.
It’s quite far away from me but if you like Korean food or food in general it’s worth a trip just for Calong.
I honestly don’t write reviews often, but Calong in Stoke Newington absolutely deserves one.
From the moment we walked in, the service was *exceptional*. The staff were warm, attentive and genuinely passionate about the food, the kind of hospitality that makes you feel like a valued guest rather than just another table. Every recommendation was spot on, and they struck that perfect balance of being attentive without ever hovering.
The food itself was incredible. Every dish felt thoughtful, beautifully presented and packed with flavour. You can tell there’s real care and creativity behind the menu.
What really stood out though was the atmosphere the team created. Relaxed, welcoming and quietly confident. It felt like the restaurant was running like a well-oiled machine but still with a very personal touch.
It’s rare to find somewhere where both the food and the service are genuinely five-star, but Calong absolutely nails it. One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in London in my life.
Already looking forward to coming back.
