Cala'S

Arriving in Manchester-by-the-sea, we had lunch near the Commuter Rail station. This restaurant was recommended by ChatGPT, but it was just okay; perhaps the town is too small, with limited options. New England Clam Chowder: Rich, flavorful, and delicate, but unfortunately a bit too salty. Mussels: A classic New England preparation, with a strong wine aroma, but the acidity wasn't prominent. A touch of tomato added umami and balanced the richness of the butter, which was quite good. However, the mussels were a bit small, slightly affecting the overall experience. Baked Local Haddock: The haddock was quite fresh, but it was overcooked even than I usually do – does that make sense? The asparagus was simply blanched and completely tasteless. Surprisingly, the best dish was the mashed potatoes. House Greens Salad: Delicious! The vegetables were very fresh, the vinaigrette's acidity was crisp and refreshing, with a slightly sweet aftertaste that balanced it out, preventing it from being too overpowering. House Fried Rice: This fried rice was absolutely awful, a contender for the worst I've ever eaten. It was both overwhelmingly sour and salty, completely inedible, and tasted like the vinaigrette in our salad. Don't ask why I ordered fried rice in a small American town; my parents wanted it… However, after complaining to the waiter, the dish was served for free, which was a pretty good outcome.

We were in Manchester-by-the-sea as a group of Scottish football fans over for the World Cup. After visiting Cala's once, we kept coming back! The welcome was fantastic, the service friendly and attentive, the food delicious, and there was a beer to suit every palate. Special mention for the Lobster Roll and the new Tartan Army special: "Chips 'n' Cheese!" Thank you so much for your generous welcome, even to a rowdy group of Scots, and especially for treating our young team like family. We loved our time in Manchester-by-the-sea. No Scotland, No Party!

I have been coming to Calas since I was very little, and they never disappoint me. The service is always very friendly, the food is always good. And they always have a lovely atmosphere, whether that means a red sox game, or just inviting ambiance. Overall I think that they are a wonderful restaurant and would recommend that you visit.

The place is cool. Food was good but didn’t come out the way we wanted. The waitress was kind and attentive. The kids burger was no different than the regular menu burger other than one is $10 and the other is $20…

We were there from Scotland for the World Cup and all I can say is, you have to go to this bar, the friendships the staff the people, basically everything about this place is the awesome!!! You should be very proud of what you provide, because it matters and it mattered to us. The BEST!!! #Cala’sisthebest Ps I would like to send you some photos if you can get in touch.
