3.5, rounding up to 4 because of great service and the most important thing (the bbq) being good.
We stopped here for lunch headed home from the gulf. As others have mentioned, it's a bit off the beaten path, but certainly a worthwhile stop if you enjoy bbq.
This business has more seating/space inside than it looks like it might outside. We arrived and parked near the entrance in the gravel lot. It looked like they were working on a food truck while we were there.
Stepping inside, it was dimly lit but clean. There are some nostalgic kids' games on the tables which provided my dad with lots of entertainment (Hungry, Hungry Hippos anyone?). The service was very kind and friendly and took care to ensure we were comfortable. I thought the prices were a touch high but they probably have to be to stay afloat.
I ordered a pulled pork sandwich with two sides, collard greens and smoked mac and cheese. My parents did the same thing, though I don't remember what their sides were.
I thought the barbeque pork was really quite solid. It was a huge portion, so large I ultimately wound up taking the top bun off, spearing hunks of pork and putting sauce on them, then tearing off a hunk of bun rather than eating it as a traditional sandwich. The pork was tender but not mushy, not too fatty, and with a pleasant smoke flavor. The bun was nice and soft too. Definitely recommend the bbq! The sweet and slightly smoky thick bbq sauce was a great accompaniment.
I liked the mac and cheese on first bite but as I kept eating it something about the smoke taste just seemed off to me. It became more and more chemical-y and artificial tasting to me, and by the time I was halfway done I was over it. I also was pretty meh on the collard greens, but to be honest I'm not normally a huge fan of them anyway so YMMV. They were a nice texture at least.
Overall, solid bbq meat and great service. They're worth a shot if you're in the area.
We were in the area looking for a vehicle and got hungry, found this place on google and stopped to give it a try. NGL, I was skeptical at first BUT! Ooooooo it was so good! From the moment you walk in (from the princess parking lot!) you’re greeted with a big smile and a big personality! There’s fun little games on the tables, a tv if you want to want to watch and from the looks of it…:a karaoke machine in the corner!
BUT THE FOOD! The food hits the spot! We asked for them to give us the best and that’s just what they did! Even my super picky kiddo loved it! And that’s a win!
Thank you guys so much for a fantastic time and amazing food! We will absolutely make another trip out there!! I meant to take pics of the food when it came out but we were hungry and couldn’t wait!
The food was amazing. The cabbage literally had its own roux. I swear, if I could, I would buy a gallon of it alone 🤣😅. We came for the buffet, but everything was so Southern and Hearty, we couldn't make it past our first plate. I was going to buy a plate to go, but I didn't want to be greedy and show my big back. 🤣
Amazing hidden gem. Met the owners Ed and Angela after driving out an hour and a half for some outstanding bbq. We were in awe with the ribs and the hospitality. I can’t rave enough about the staff and the food, the reviews aren’t high enough lol. It should 10 out of 5 stars!!! Entirely worth the drive and we can’t wait to bring our whole family back next time!!! Thank you all so much, I can only keep dreaming that Pensacola might one day get such a delicious spot like this. Didn’t have anymore photos because we ate what we had at the restaurant too quickly and the rest was to go…
This was HANDS DOWN the best BBQ I’ve ever had. In my life. Period. Don’t pass this place up! Owned by a fun loving couple, inclusive and kind. Will be back tomorrow for lunch!
Get the banana pudding. It’s made from scratch and almost made me cry.
