We had a wonderful evening at Shodai! Even though we visited during dinner time, there was surprisingly no line at all and we were seated immediately. The atmosphere was pleasantly quiet and relaxed, and the service was extremely sweet and welcoming from start to finish. The food arrived very quickly, and everything was incredibly delicious! The famous white curry udon portion was generous enough for the two of us to share, which turned out to be plenty. On top of that, the duck was an absolute highlight..super tender and seasoned to perfection. We would definitely love to come back!
Really good udon. The noodles have that nice chew and the broth is clean and satisfying. Simple food done well, which is harder than it looks. Quick, filling, and just right for lunch, a great stop in Ebisu when you want a good warm bowl without any fuss. Thank you for the care. Five stars.
The whipped potato curry udon was delish. Short walk from Ebisu station- glad I made the trip. I came during off peak time of 3:30 so it’s likely to have a long line with limited seating if you try during peak hours.
I came here from an Instagram reel probably like most of you. Know that the main dish potato whip cream beef curry udon may not be for everybody. It wasn't for me. If you like rich and creamy dishes like cabonara or cheesey pastas, you will love this. If you like potatos like Eastern Europeans, you'll love it. For me, the potato cream kinda ruin it. I love the beef, the udon and curry broth. Don't get me wrong. The quality of the whole bowl is really good. What I'm trying to say is the flavor profile isn't for everyone. I'd have loved the entire bowl without the potato whip cream and that's just me.
It's 3 min walk from Ebisu station. I saw no parking whatsoever. There was no wait for me around 3pm on a Tuesday. Their credit card processor is currently broken as of mid July so they are only taking cash.
I know it's a dilemma. You come to this place for potato whip udon. I'm saying I'd order something else. If you come with a group, may be not all of you order the same. If it's just you, well, you're going to have to try it and find out. 🤷🏻
A lovely way to spend our Tuesday night in Tokyo. The potato beef Udon curry was delicious and really well-priced. It was interesting that the potato was actually room temperature but underneath was a steaming hot bowl of soup. Lovely meat pieces inside although only one or two pieces. A great serving of Udon. We also ordered green beans and tempura which were all very tasty. The atmosphere and decor of the place was lovely and minimalist.
