Overall, we enjoyed our meal, but there was one aspect of the service that felt below the standard one would expect from a Michelin-listed restaurant.
Our drinks were served on a tray that already contained dirty glasses and empty bottles collected from other tables. While this may seem like a small detail, it felt unhygienic and detracted from the overall experience.
My only recommendation would be to keep clean service and used tableware separate. It is a small operational detail, but one that makes a noticeable difference and better reflects the standard guests expect from a restaurant of this level.
This Michelin star restaurant in the village of Amstelveen is a little hard to get to if you are taking bus - but by uber it was very quick! The servers are helpful and knowledgeable. The restaurant is clean and well kept, and large! There is wifi and there are bathrooms and they are very clean. If you have peanut allergy, please let them know so they can help you with food. It is still possible to eat here. We had no allergy but we did inquire. The menu has some alcoholic and non alcoholic cocktails, so that is awesome! We really enjoyed the rijsttaffel - and all it's selections. We had the Guilleaume selection. Everything is explained and you can enjoy this experience for as few as two people. I think that we should have added some more street snacks or satay. The desserts were delicious!!!!!!! And the soft serve with berries and spice cake came in a cool clear box with dry ice to provide entertainment. They say the ice cream dessert is for 2 people, but I ate it fine by myself (bigger north american appetites) My husband enjoyed the chocolate peanut dessert very much!
The restaurant atmosphere is nice, and the waiters provide fast and good service. However, the time it takes for the food to reach the table is quite slow; most probably the kitchen is either busy or working very slowly.
While some of the dishes were delicious, the majority were below average. Considering the price-performance ratio, the portion sizes and taste of the food don't justify the price.
Although taste is a subjective concept, this isn't a restaurant I would definitely return to.
Went there for mother’s day and we had a good time. They have a nice selection of wine. The food was nice and the place has a very nice atmosphere. We ordered the secret appetizer box and it had very tasty nibbles.
Disappointing, expensive and frustrating.. we'd biked down the Amstel and stopped here for lunch yesterday (on a sunny Monday). Server wasn't friendly when she sat us, restaurant was not full but there was a large corporate lunch on the terrace. Service took ages, when we ordered the menu wasn't explained so we ordered a starter to share from "street food" menu and then each got a dish from "Gerechten" (not labeled as small dishes or appetizers). I got a chicken noodle salad (17 euro) and my husband got the lamb (26 euro).
We ordered around 1pm and the food arrived at 1:55pm - no comment on the slowness from the staff. Drinks were also very slow/staggered - my cava arrived and then my husband's beer took another 20 minutes. When the food finally arrived the chicken noodle salad was laughable, like 3 udon noodles and 1 bite of chicken. It was about 4 bites of food and I thought must have been a mistake. The street food app was 2 croquettes. My husband's lamb was 3 lamskoteletjes and nothing else - for 26 euro no rice, no veg... and nothing impressive flavor-wise. When I asked the server about the portion size she was dismissive and just said "yes it's shared plates and you can always order more food"... we'd already waited an hour for the tiniest amount of food so no way we'd bother ordering more. Especially given the food was so average.
Definitely recommend the staff clearly highlight that "gerechten" does not mean main dishes on this menu... or better yet re-label it to say "sharing plates", "small plates" and explain the concept better. On the menu "gerechten" is a separate section to the "rijstafel" but almost seems like in actuality is a "build your own rijsttafel". This would lead to fewer disappointed guests. Also a bit more friendliness and empathy in the service would help a lot, especially given the price point of the restaurant. Gave 2 stars for staff because the second waiter we paid with was much kinder to us.
Overall spent 100 euro on a lunch and left dissatisfied. Better to spend your time and money at an authentic indo takeaway!
