Before writing this review, I looked over the Hotel Dei Pittori's info again. For one, please take note that the management pictures are over ten years old. The photos on the listing do not accurately represent the current state of facility. Wall paper has either been removed or, as the state of it in our bathroom, it is peeling off walls at the seems. Accents have been removed (throw rugs, decorations, etc.). The accent light fixture in our room was not functional.
Beware of the hotel booking website. I had a glitch where only one guest was noted on my reservation. I had overlooked this upon booking. Upon checking in, they charged us the additional 35 Euro/per person/per night due to my error - I checked the website to see where/how I errored. I was able to duplicate the glitch. I then took my device to the front desk, demonstrated the technical error, and I was advised that it was policy for the upgrade charge. We then advised that the web prices were more along the lines of 10 Euro/per person/per night and, again, they advised this was their policy. I was disappointed that they were not willing to make consideration to accommodate us on THEIR technical glitch.
We had a room on first floor and the April days were quite warm. On our first night, we opened windows to cool the room. However, the neighborhood has an active bar scene and we, literally, had people yelling in our window and we were concerned about an intoxicated person attempting to enter the open window so we closed it. On the next day, we asked at the front desk if we could turn the split on for air conditioning for the next night due to concern of leaving windows open on weekend nights. We were advised that it was too early in the season and that air conditioning was not available (even though it is an offered amenity.)
The breakfast was pleasant enough, but it was not near to some of the exceptional reviews that we read online. I wonder if previous reviews are old or if they are manufactured.
All in all - lodging was adequate. However, for the price, we felt that we could have found better accommodations that were more centrally located.
The hotel resides in a beautiful building and the service givers were out-of-their-way nice. The location is very good, close to the center but with parking and no red-zone danger.
Downsides - the breakfast is meh, the bed wasn't that great and the street noise could be heard.
If you read thus far - know that none of the downsides is a deal breaker, and I would definitely come back
I don't recommend this hotel.
At checkin, I parked across the street. Parking was free. The guy at the desk said parking is $15 euro, and asked about the free spot I was in, and he said it was not secure because it was not on their security. The pay spot was also on the street. Felt like a shakedown, pay or something will happen to the car. I guess it is a bad neighborhood.
We got to the room, it was hot and stuffy. We couldn't find any air controls, so went back to the desk. Guy said he controls the temperature from his phone and set it colder. We left to do our touring and came back a few hours later, room was still hot. Desk guy came up, filter was clean but he cleaned it anyway. It made no difference. It was too hot to sleep, no other room available,and we had to go elsewhere. Refund was refused, even though the room did not meet the basic expectations set in the online description. I am still amazed that any guest finds it acceptable to not control their own temperature.
We had a nice stay! definitely it is not like any usual commercial property, The staff who was in charge when we arrived, managed to arrange me a parking place quickly as I requested, in a near by garage. they were really polite and helpful with all my questions :-)
