It was quite empty for a Friday night in downtown and I now understand why. I’ll start off by saying our server, Jared, went absolutely above and beyond to make our night special. If it weren’t for him it would have easily been 3 stars. The biggest issue is the value for money - I noticed right away that there wasn’t a single glass of wine on the menu for less than about $20. We tried one and it was clear immediately that the wine had been open for several days before we got it so the waiter very graciously opened a new bottle. If you are going to be selling a glass of wine for $20 then you also need to be opening bottles fresh every day or at the very least every other day. In addition the bottle selection was also excessively marked up. I find it frustrating when the least expensive bottle on your list is $80 (and the list wasn’t particularly impressive). The bread service came with a delicious house made burnt lemon butter that was tragically paired with slices of bread that had been charred black on one side and soaked in some kind of oil. The butter was meant to be the focus but they are doing too much with the oily burnt bread, it just didn’t work. I ordered the filet which was fine and had the sauce on the side per the waiter’s recommendation- and boy was he right. That sauce was one of the worst things I have ever tasted and it would have completely ruined the steak! I got truffle fries with my steak and they were soggy and way over salted (and I LOVE salt) in a mess of damp oily parm. My husband got the branzino which was fabulous with a truly exceptional sauce ironically, and the kids chicken fingers were actually two chicken breasts hand breaded and perfectly moist. The mayo that came with my fries was also deliciously fresh and homemade. So it was really all over the place which is usually fine and kind of standard for pgh dining but not for a $400 meal. I wouldn’t even be writing this if it weren’t for the simply ridiculous prices. There are so many better meals with consistent quality to be had (nearby even!) for a fraction of the price. They either need to lower their prices or figure out their food.
