I am a traveller visiting Nigeria from the UK who visited Delizz for shopping today, and I will never be stepping foot in there again due to the rudeness of their senior management.
First of all, the shopping experience is bizarre. Many of their hot food, cakes and ice cream section have to be paid for individually at separate tills as well as outside of your shopping instead of during one transaction. So during one visit you will be charging your card, plus tax and fees maybe three separate times if not more, which is extremely inconvenient for someone who wants to just get in and out.
This is the second time I have attended the venue to try to purchase ice cream/hot food alongside grocery shopping. In the middle of my shopping whilst trying to pay for an item from their pizza bar, I’m met with 5-6 members of staff confusedly crowding their tills—go figure, the other one was broken— who completely didn’t know what they were doing. They took a ridiculous amount of time to process the transaction to the point I had to threaten to leave multiple times.
So now after paying, the staff are murmuring amongst themselves, apparently according to their till it read that I had been overcharged. I’m standing there equally confused waiting for a solution, as how can I have been overcharged when their card reader told me the correct total?
They attempted to shoo me off without clarification. After going back and forth with their absolutely inept staff, I get the absolute RUDEST input from their Lebanese or foreign senior manager or owner who was fixing the tills nearby. This man had the audacity to stick his finger in my face and tell me “you should always be checking the card reader before you pay” even though it is THEIR system that showed a discrepancy, not the card reader, which almost resulted in a shouting match.
This is the general attitude in the store from what I’ve witnessed. The store is foreign owned and they have a poor attitude with their staff, who are mostly locals; I saw them talking to them so dismissively it was unbelievable, and as a foreign traveller it is not something I ever want to witness in a store. And now their senior manager/owner/whoever thinks he can equally insult my own and other customers’ intelligence because they have the same attitude towards their buyers. This is not even including the fact that a lot of the imported goods they sell are expired or stale, separated from multipacks and not licensed to even be sold individually in the countries they import from, like the overly price inflated chocolate bar I picked up as part of my shopping.
In my opinion Delizz should do a little more to respect the locals here, whose patronage and naira they so clearly need…
