We’ve just been for afternoon tea at this lovely little independent café in Clay Cross, and I honestly can’t recommend it enough.
It’s right on the high street, but there’s a small free car park just behind, which made it really easy for us. The café itself is absolutely gorgeous—really quaint, with so much character. There aren’t loads of tables, so I’d definitely recommend booking, but that just adds to the charm. Everywhere you look there’s something to take in—beautiful cups and saucers, vintage cutlery, and all those little details that make it feel really special while you’re sat there.
The service was outstanding. The staff were so attentive, polite, and genuinely couldn’t do enough for us.
We had pre-booked afternoon tea and chose to have the entire thing made gluten-free, as my daughter has coeliac disease and we wanted to be able to share everything safely. As anyone who deals with gluten-free knows, it can be really hit and miss—but this was honestly amazing. The effort they’ve put into it really shows. It looked no different to a standard afternoon tea—you genuinely wouldn’t have known it was gluten-free if it wasn’t labelled. That in itself says a lot, because so many places either don’t offer it properly or it feels like an afterthought.
My daughter was so excited—it was actually her first proper afternoon tea, and it meant so much to be able to do that safely and without feeling like she was missing out. Knowing it was pre-prepared also gave us extra confidence around cross-contamination, and you can tell they genuinely care about getting it right.
The food was delicious, the whole experience was lovely, and we’ll 100% be back.
Highly recommend for anyone—but especially if you have dietary requirements. It’s so refreshing to find somewhere that really makes the effort.
Let’s support our local independents—they deserve it 🤍
